In all seriousness, the domestic run and the one they were on in Europe just couldn't be sustained. Personnel moves on, players leave, wrong decisions are made, wrong new players added, injuries taking their toll. The club put too much faith in new brooms in management that lack necessary skills (Streller) and former heroes (Frei, Stocker). Former manager Wicky was popular with the squad, as he's also still rather young, but on the sidelines, he became more and more helpless. They're still well-off on the whole and I do hope they find back to winning ways soon - but to be honest, it got to a point where top flight football in Switzerland became a bit of a farce with one team earning all the credentials regularly. It was about time that another team won the league. I'm more concerned about the overall performance of Swiss teams in Europe, because I want us to gain a better UEFA coefficient. Young Boys don't stand a chance in that killer group with Juventus, Manchester United and Valencia. Lucerne, St. Gallen both out early in the Europa League qualifiers. Basel out against a team from Cyprus. Only FC Zürich are still holding up the flag, fighting their way through their EL group stage.
ScouseFox Posted 13 October 2018 Posted 13 October 2018 came into the thread for the usual hipster german third division news or to find out that barca have some new wonderkid in their academy, was not expecting that last page tbf
MC Prussian Posted 20 October 2018 Author Posted 20 October 2018 Paco Alcacer with seven goals in only 106 minutes of pitch action this season. New Bundesliga record. And never before have Dortmund scored 26 goals after only eight league games played. Fourteen different scorers, as well. Massive.
StanSP Posted 20 October 2018 Posted 20 October 2018 Messi to miss El Clasico next Sunday as he fractured his arm in today's victory over Sevilla.

spacemunky Posted 27 October 2018 Posted 27 October 2018 Sancho with both Dortmund goals today. Kalou matched the 2 though and got Hertha the draw.

Corky Posted 29 October 2018 Posted 29 October 2018 Lopetegui sacked. What a 4 months he's had- from potentially helping Spain win a World Cup to being sacked twice.

Finnegan Posted 30 October 2018 Posted 30 October 2018 He's an interesting warning to any top Premier league clubs tempted by Southgate if England have a reasonable Euros. Similar career, really, albeit even more low key than GS. Middled around with a couple Spanish clubs, was crap, did age group stuff for the Spanish national team, gets national job as a result, does a pretty okay job... gets Madrid!? Bonkers to begin with.
MC Prussian Posted 12 November 2018 Author Posted 12 November 2018 Barcelona vs. Betis was an epic game. Barca pressing like the world depended on it, Betis not holding back. Betis go 2-0 up, that particular lead lasts until the 67th minute, when Messi scores a penalty, then Ter Stegen comes up with a Karius-like blunder to restore Betis' two-goal advantage. Vidal makes it 2-3 in the 79th minute after a quick one-two, Betis score again in the 83rd minute, only for Barcelona to score their third in injury time. Relentless.
SemperEadem Posted 22 November 2018 Posted 22 November 2018 Great news, shows the power fan groups have when united. https://www.thelocal.de/20181122/german-league-to-ditch-monday-matches-from-2021

Enjoy the trip. Just don't fall off the stands, promise. The San Paolo has its charm, that is if you like rust and the smell of urine throughout a football stadium.

MC Prussian Posted 22 November 2018 Author Posted 22 November 2018 Anthony Modeste back at 1.FC Köln. Not sure he can reproduce his 25-goal Bundesliga season two years back. He's 30 now, but arguably playing in a lower division, so probably the right fit. Wish him well, funny guy.
MC Prussian Posted 23 November 2018 Author Posted 23 November 2018 And Dortmund have finally signed Paco Alcacer on a permanent transfer. Somewhere between £20m and £23m. Given his recent output, that's a bargain. Looking forward to him putting them into the net left, right and center. Superb signing for the BVB.
Max Wall Posted 1 December 2018 Posted 1 December 2018 Palermo sold for the princely sum of 10 euros to a 'London based company'.
MC Prussian Posted 3 December 2018 Author Posted 3 December 2018 And Union Berlin the only team in the European top two divisions - apart from powerhouses such as Manchester City, Liverpool, Dortmund, PSG and Juventus - still unbeaten. Hope they finally get promoted to the Bundesliga - derby matches against Hertha would be fantastic.
SAFC1 Posted 8 December 2018 Posted 8 December 2018 Scary to think there’s still people who believe Messi isn’t the best ever. Unbelievable tonight.
