Because he is - or rather, can be.

The Thorgan Hazard I know usually works as a left midfielder/left winger, but can also play in the middle or on the right, if need be.

Maddison is a classic attacking midfielder, never ever actually played as a winger (look up his stats).

I want talking more about Eden who plays more of a 'free role' than conventional winger.

I didn't realise that about Maddison it's a shame as I love Shinji

Premier League Games only:

Player Games Goals Assists MPG MPA Minutes
Januzaj 75 5 7 852 609 4262
Mahrez 139 39 28 280 390 10930
Albrighton 209 15 37 900 365 13507
Gray 77 4 7 726 415 2902

Stats alone prove nothing. You have to take age/experience into consideration, as well.

If you run up the numbers and triple both Gray and Januzaj's stats, you'll end up pretty close to Albrighton (who is five/six years their senior).

Heck, multiply Gray's numbers by a factor of approximately five based on minutes played, and he's even better than Albrighton.

The potential for them to become better as they get older is still there.

Yeh I get what you're saying but it begs the question why did we sign all these players that don't really have a set position in our formation?

Silva

Ihenancho

Maddison

Ricardo

etc etc

I think they all fit into the side just fine with the slight exception of Iheanacho who will be Vardy's replacement.

Albrighton 209 15 37 900 365 13507
Gray 77 4 7 726 415 2902

So basically:

Gray has a goal every 725mins

Gray has an assist every 414mins

Januzaj has a goal every 852mins

Januzaj has an assist every 608mins

Add to the fact a number of Januzaj games were in a more attacking Man Utd team.

Gray > Januzaj

FFS, No, No, NO.

I'd rather go with what we have and donate £20m to charity. Another sub standard player who will be milking a wage for half a decade.

yes IMHO both of them are not premier league standard and we should be aiming higher.

I agree I think it's worth having one last punt on Gray and if hes not up to it then bin him off to Brentford or something.

He looks a world beater for England U21s

What is the internet bum fest with that bloke... if he was that good would some decent teams not have snapped him up already. There is clearly something holding them back.

Just like if Mahrez was that good, some other decent team would've got there before us... He may not want to leave Ajax, or there is something underlying, but he has better track record already than a lot of the other targets! If you'd prefer Januzaj that's your opinion, but I have not seen him produce anything in England for a sustained period and would rather look at someone new...

I think Gray has had more than enough chances I would rather we gave some of our youngsters a chance, I would not have loaned out Barnes.

Better than what we have and he could rotate with Gray.

Is 20m the figure? I'd have expected closer to 12-15m.

For the right price he offers something different and it limits the amount of times we'd need to watch Diabate.

We'll never replace Mahrez like-for-like but to ask why we need a winger is a bit daft.

I just don't think we're as 'desperate' for a winger as everyone thinks.

We were 'deserpate' for a striker in Jan before we won the league but Vardy, Shinji and Ulloa proved enough.

I would rather we went back to how Pearson used to manage, even the new player is a definate first teamer or we don't waste money on them.

Its why we have such a bloated squad, wasting money on 'squad' players. Just like the Peter Taylor days.

Januzaj is OK but we really should be aiming higher, and if we don't sign anyone, it's really not the end of the world.

I like Barnes too but again what's his best position? AMC? Winger?

Still think Gray can come good, just needs an arm around him and some confidence.

I think he has the attributes to be a good player but he has not not the footballing brain to become one and I do not think that is something he can learn.

Not saying I disagree with you regarding stats, but in terms of Albrighton v Gray, if they had played the same amount of minutes, based off of Grays MPG and MPA he would come out with 19 goals and 33 assists

So in total he would be equal to albrighton both with 52 goal contributions

Is our squad really that bloated?

I think there are plenty of positions where we're weak and cover is very poor.

Green = First team, Orange = Bench and Red = Reserves.

I'm fed up of hearing our squad is bloated. It's a ****ing stupid thing to say.

The fact we have way too many central midfielders and strikers that we don't consider good enough, doesn't mean we don't need wingers or centre backs, does it?

You could have fifty goalkeepers at your club. Your wage bill might be bloated but your "squad" wouldn't be, it would be ****ing threadbare everywhere else.

We have two CBs good enough to start with a questionable backup option in Wes and one proven, consistent winger. The squad is not "bloated", the wage bill is. Stop perpetuating this nonsense.

Correct assessment, but the next seven days will be very telling - and the management very active. I expect a few of these names in red to disappear off the wage bill until the end of August, and some more names coming in.

Btw:

Benalouane

Pereira

I like him, talented and just needs the right squad/team/manager to get the best out of him, which would be us.

You know it's entirely possible he may have developed as a player since leaving Manchester United.

Kids and nobodies? Why would I bother including them when we're talking about the first team that will play next season?

He's not better than what we have.

I'd have Gray and Albrighton above him by a considerable distance. We could also play Iheanacho central and Maddison to his right as an attacking three behind Vardy playing narrow with the full backs providing width.

We're absolutely ****ing useless, another waste of space coming in for big money who we will take a loss on of assuming we find some other mugs to move him on to before his contract is up. Why on earth don't we just but someone who is a level above what we have or keep our money in our pockets until we do?
