Maddison isn't a winger, he's an attacking midfielder, operating from the middle of the park.

Belgium's best wingers are two brothers - one of them at Chelsea, the other at Borussia Mönchengladbach.

But I agree, Chadli did well at the World Cup. Still no reason not to pick up players from relegated teams.

How can you say Maddison isn't a winger but then say Hazard is?

Seriously I don't get it?

We won won the league with basically Albrighton / Mahrez with Gray / Dyer / Schlupp as back up

We now have Albrighton / Gray / Diabete / Maddison / Ricardo / Chilwell / Kaputzka / Musa? who can all play on the wing.

So more than when we won the league and we might not even play with wingers.

Id rather not sign anyone than end up with an overpaid / second rate players like this.

Even sign someone who's really gonna raise the standard or don't bother

You've just named 5 out and out wingers that we won the league with... then you've listed only three actual wingers in the current list with a load of square pegs who will be playing other positions and players who will be leaving.

Because Hazard is actually a winger? Who cuts inside on his stronger foot from the wing, you know like that Algerian fella we just sold, pretty sure he was a winger?

Nah.... you're alright.

Why are we so desperate to sign another winger? I thought Maddison replaced Mahrez? This is why we've ended up with such a bloated squad.

If Januzaj is the kind of signing we get these days... we'll be relegated in 2 years.

People saying none of our wingers would get in the Belgium squad. There best winger was a West Brom player

Because our 3 wingers have scored or assisted just 48 times between them in 247 PL games.

Mahrez scored or assisted for us 67 times in 137 games.

We desperately need to replace him with someone who can chip in, reliably. Mahrez averaged a goal or assist every other game for us. Between Diabate, Gray and Albrighton we've been getting a goal or assist every 5 games.

Mahrez was good for 19 goal contributions per season. Albrighton, Gray and Diabate BETWEEN THEM are good for 7 goal contributions a season.

Schlupp is basically the same as Chilwell and if Maddison is going to play as an AMC then we won't be playing with conventional 'wingers' anyway

Because he played 95% of his games on the wing and Maddison played 95% of his games behind the striker.

You mean like how we have been doing all pre-season?

No he's not, Schlupp played winger for us mostly. Chilwell is a left back.

Well we are playing with conventional wingers, just like we did last night. Maddison is playing the 10 position that Shinji did... and we played with wingers then.

Exactly so why the **** would we want Januzaj who's scored 10 goals in 140 games

Mirrallas has been frozen out by Silva. I’d be as happy with him as this guy and would be a lower investment. Both terribly inconsistent for years

Mixed feelings on this one. I remember when he first broke onto the scene at Man U and everyone was raving about him being the next big thing.

Don't think it helped his development with all the turmoil that went on since Ferguson left. and Sunderland was obviously not a great move for him and so not sure we can judge him on that too much.

He has definitely got a lot of ability and had a ton of experience, good and bad, for someone his age.

I certainly think we need some more creative flair in the squad and he would definitely add that. I liken him to Gray, in that, there is undoubtedly a lot of raw ingredients there, but for whatever reason, maybe attitude or maturing later, neither have been able to shows consistent signs of reaching that potential yet.

There are better players on paper out there for us, but perhaps we have struggled to get them here for whatever reason, so now looking at other options down our list, which is where I would put a player like Januzaj.

As others have said, I would take him if the price was right. He is 1 year into a 5 year contract and surely they don't want to sell after what has been a good first season for him. Luckily they aren't a huge club though and so would have a selling point. With age and development still on his side, I think anywhere from £20-25million would be a realistic offer for them to accept and personally, I think would be worth a punt at that. Bought for around £8million 1 year ago makes that sting a little, but this is the market we are in now and Prem clubs usually pay a premium.

Unfortunately, we are running out of time now and I do think we still need a CB and definitely a flair player, so lets get this done and then Gibson perhaps, and I'd be pretty happy with our business, once we have shifted a handful out too.

For the right price he offers something different and it limits the amount of times we'd need to watch Diabate.

We'll never replace Mahrez like-for-like but to ask why we need a winger is a bit daft.

We won the league with Mahrez starting basically every game and have replaced probably the best attacking player in our history with Diabate, who looks like a poor man's Lloyd Dyer and Demarai Gray who is about as consistent as British weather.

We're about to sell Musa who is crap, Kapustka isn't good enough and is a central midfielder, Maddison is a central midfielder and you named a bunch of full backs.

We have three wingers at the club and beyond Albrighton there are questions over both.

It's the position we are most desperate for reinforcement.

Please no, very, very overrated player.

I agree. If we sell Musa, we will definitely need another wide attacking midfielder. We can do better than Januzaj, to fill that void, I hope

It's just underwhelming if we want to replace Mahrez sign someone better than Januzaj please.

I think Gray deserves a full season / half season as the 'main man'. Unless we sign truly world class I wouldn't want Januzaj to come and take Grays place.

Ive been critical of him in the past but think he has more potential

Because he is - or rather, can be.

The Thorgan Hazard I know usually works as a left midfielder/left winger, but can also play in the middle or on the right, if need be.

Maddison is a classic attacking midfielder, never ever actually played as a winger (look up his stats).

Yeh I get what you're saying but it begs the question why did we sign all these players that don't really have a set position in our formation?

Silva

Ihenancho

Maddison

Ricardo

etc etc
