koop. Posted 25 February 2019 Posted 25 February 2019 Just wondered how much influence back room coaching staff actually have? With some managers I presume more than others. I've got nothing against Mike Stowell, for example, but he's been here for over a decade and seen countless managers come and go. What makes a club stick with coaching staff like Stowell but change managers and other coaching staff so frequently? If a coach can stay for over 10 years then clearly he's very good at what he does, therefore why hasn't he progressed into more senior management roles? Not necessarily with us but in general? Just my random thoughts for the night
SMX11 Posted 25 February 2019 Posted 25 February 2019 Stowell has no ambition to be an assistant manager or manager. Pretty much said as much today in the press conference.

I appreciate that, and this is nothing against Stowell as clearly he still has a job because he does it well, but if managers and coaching staff get the sack so quickly because a team is not performing, how does a member of coaching staff stay for over a decade? A huge time in football. Just curious really
Crispin LA Posted 25 February 2019 Posted 25 February 2019 Stowell prefers the comfort zone, steady income and steady job. He not a risk taker. Met people like him who settle for less money but be in work long term doing the same job.
HybridFox Posted 26 February 2019 Posted 26 February 2019 it's like Brian Kidd at Man City. look how many managers they've churned around with billions of pounds at their disposal, yet he's lasted to date.
cal21212121 Posted 26 February 2019 Posted 26 February 2019 Also him and Kasper get along really well as a goalkeeper coach. A club has to have some stability and chopping and changing everything down to the goalkeeper coach is a bit excessive. But clearly some managers listen to the backroom staff more than others. 2nd season under Ranieri for example he seemed to abandon the advice of our sports science and was training them too hard which was causing fitness issues and adding to the sluggish performances. Surround yourself with good staff and listen to their input, that's why Nige, Shakey and Walsh we're so good together, they were a management team.
Vindaloo FOX Posted 26 February 2019 Posted 26 February 2019 I feel we miss someone like Kevin Phillips, someone to work with our strikers. We have had so many strikers come in who have failed at the club, feel we need someone to give them some confidence and a helping hand.

We had a sports psychologist too, does anyone know if these positions were brought back in after Ranieri's departure?
TheUltimateWinner Posted 26 February 2019 Posted 26 February 2019 You need someone like Stowell in a club to be there when shit hits the fan. Familiar face for the players and also can provide stability in-between managers.
Fox92 Posted 26 February 2019 Posted 26 February 2019 Always felt we've needed more staff. We've got Stowell warming the forwards up during their shooting practise... how's the work? Surely we can attract and afford a good striker coach, maybe someone who's played in midfield and a good defensive coach.
EastAnglianFox Posted 26 February 2019 Posted 26 February 2019 Still not really sure what it is that Stowell actually does apart from follow Kasper around like a lap dog
Leeds Fox Posted 26 February 2019 Posted 26 February 2019 The coaches could simply be implementing the managers ideas. If they aren’t good at it the manager could have them sacked. In the main I’d imagine it’s the managers that takes the fall as it’s his training regimes that the coaches are doing day to day.

When the main striker in the team, barely gets a sniff at goal under a manager. what real chance do the sub strikers have
Finnegan Posted 26 February 2019 Posted 26 February 2019 If Stowell is the reason Kasper's general command of his area is so ****ing abysmal he should have been sacked years ago.
Mendi Posted 26 February 2019 Posted 26 February 2019 Rodgers could even attend the fixture at the King Power Stadium if the deal is finalised before the 7.45pm home clash. It is understood Chris Davies, Glen Driscoll, and Kolo Toure will also join Leicester as part of Rodgers' backroom staff.

Yup, not my first choice as he’s a bit Brent esque however I’m willing to bet he’s what we need to turn the football and the results and the dressing room around.

Driscoll has been Head of Performance (ie the Fitness, Conditioning & Physio side of the Club) with Rodgers at Swansea, Liverpool and Celtic. I wonder what that means for Matt Reeves, who has been doing that at the KP for a while ?

Driscoll is their performance coach is Matt Reeves still ours ?? i would feel bad if got the boot and I doubt he would want to hang around as a no 2

We need a fresh start, and Stowell is probably too close to the players after all this time.

Stowell will stay, no matter what - he's a fixture at the KP (like Rudders - he'll only go when he collects his pension !) - and Rodgers isn't bringing Celtic's Goalkeeping Coach. I would have thought there's a good chance Sadler will leave, he's been with us a relatively short time.
