Some lad sat running a twitter page making fairly easy to assume posts going along the lines of what most know doesn't make them the all seeing eye and fountain of truth. People chat shite, especially in the social media age of anonymous usernames and social influencers edit: phone autopredict, eurgh

st albans fox Posted 26 February 2019 Posted 26 February 2019 People - this isn’t a rabbit out of a hat - my spurs supporting nephew messaged me a few weeks ago telling me .... the papers have mentioned it going back months The only surprise is that he has agreed to do it now rather than wait until june LCFCHQ clearly got wind of it being imminent yesterday afternoon perhaps journos also knew but were told to keep it quiet for a little while longer so Celtic could sort out their media side before it broke .....

Perhaps journalists actually decided to firm up the story, like they're trained to do, and aren't just some anonymous social media account trying to impress idiots on the internet by taking a punt on getting some reasonably educated guesswork right.

Thats when Herald and Journal, Laurie Whitwell for the Daily Mail and Percy for the Telegraph all broke it round about the same time. Would also suggest why the odds drifted rather drastically in the evening - Because it was common knowledge but being kept on the down low. I would suggest LCFCHQ knows someone in the media.

Surely you hand out the information you're given with a "believe it or not" "take it or leave it" approach? EDIT; I should note this by saying this isn't a dig at Geoff in particular. There have been some right melts that have thrown serious tantrums over this sort of thing on here.

For one thing the Herald/Glasgow Evening Times were tweeting it at 10.23, thus breaking any supposed embargo. Plus, you know the internet exists right? Journos following up that story could easily have got something up online in the following minutes, which they dutifully did.

Herald tweeted at 10:20 they "Had an update on Rodgers future" and then tweeted the article after half past. Its common knowledge big stuff like that has time embargoes.

Pre match PL press conferences have a general section and an embargoed section (usually 2230). So you'll find lots of journalists posting similar stories online at 2230 on social media.
