It was fine a couple of weeks ago. Indicative of British summer!

I reckon they'll come back on about 3.30pm(ish) but go off later again for rain after 4pm.

There's a reserve day tomorrow but I'd rather get this match done today. That's lot of overs/hours lost to restrict us to only 20 overs. Think there'll be enough adequate weather left  in the day to get enough overs in I hope.

148 in 20 is very doable though even with a wet outfield.

Essentially becomes a T20 match for India and they regularly approach a score of 200.

How do the powerplays work once DL comes into force? As you say you'd back India to score at least 7+ an over for the T20, but a few slow overs at the start similar to NZ today and it soon rises, I guess.

Depends how many overs are left to be played from start of the innings.

If it is 20 overs, I'd presume they'd go with how T20 games go it's 0-6 overs as no more than 2 fielders outside circle then from 6-20 it'll be no more than 4 or 5 fielders outside.

Anything beyond 20 overs and I'm not sure how it'll be split between powerplays.

Really hope they don't turn this into a 20/20 finish just to complete it today.

It's a 50 over World Cup, come back tomorrow and finish it properly.

My guess is that if it can be completed today, it'll be done today. They've got til 8pm + bit extra if umpires decide a result can be determined.

Cricket has some pathetic rules, ridiculous sport. The weather and other factors of luck should not be influencing games this much, especially at a World Championship/Cup level.

I heard that there's a good chance that the England v Aussie SF might be washed out on both Thursday and the reserve day on Friday.

In which case Australia advance to the final :(

And if the final is washed out on both days then the trophy is shared?

In the year 2019 you'd think there must be a better way...

There's no rain forecast for Thursday at Edgbaston?

Looks like it'll be moved to tomorrow given how the weather is panning out and the fact it's been raining since 2pm.

Play has to start by 6.35pm for a 20-over game. But there's more rain forecast later after that.

Gonna be a dead atmosphere tomorrow. Can't imagine there'll be many people there with having to change plans at such short notice (another reason why organisers would want it finished today).

This is a fcking joke. Someone is gonna get robbed due to this cr8p weather and even crapper scheduling.

Never have the cwc here again.

At least we won't have the embarrassment for many years.

what happens if it rains tomorrow?

India go through by virtue of finishing higher in groups.

If same happens on Thurs/Fri for Eng vs Aus, then Australia go through by same virtue. But that's unlikely as no rain forecast :D

BBC weather app says light rain pretty much all day on Thursday.

Darren Gough was talking about it on TalkSport yesterday and they gave the impression it could be washed out both days :dunno:

Hopefully they were just discussing the worst case scenario and it goes ahead as planned :fc:

I don't use BBC at all. Don't like its inaccuracy!

I was recommended ventusky.com by a friend recently. Quite reliable!

I'm happier that india will have 50 full overs to chase whatever nz get. It could still be close if the ball zips about in morning.

I'm sweating my balls off in london right now. Semis should have been played here at the oval. Got nowt against the north but weather is generally better here.

Are there rules for who can and can't keep wicket during an innings?

I saw Dhoni stub his fingers on the ground earlier, if he needed five minutes to shake it out or even if he just dropped a few and was playing badly, is there any reason Rishabh Pant couldn't take the gloves for a few overs?

Nope. Subs can be made at any time (usually with umpires permission).

During India vs Bangladesh last week, Dhoni went off (presumably for a toilet break) and Karthik took over as WK I think temporarily (usual order is Dhoni > Karthik > Pant if all on the pitch).

If they're ready to come back on in the middle of any given over though, they have to wait til that over has finished to return.

Back in the 'boro, we never took toilet breaks. Just took a knee and did the bizzo. Luckily I never needed a no2, or I'd have to have taken a Peter crouch

Can't see NZ adding many more. Imagine having to go out at 10.30 in the morning and just try and go big against India's attack without having your eye in.

If it rains solidly for a fortnight, do India win the WC because they topped the group?

If the final is washed out, I believe the trophy is shared between the 2 participants.  I think...
