foxfanazer Posted 10 July 2019 Posted 10 July 2019 Fantastic match. Pure drama throughout. Unlucky @StanSP
Bobby Hundreds Posted 10 July 2019 Posted 10 July 2019 India have played 12 and won 3 against NZ in ICC tournaments.
StanSP Posted 10 July 2019 Author Posted 10 July 2019 Fantastic from NZ in the early overs. Obliterated our top order. It did worry me yesterday seeing the cloudy forecast for today and knowing Boult is a perfect bowler for such conditions. Jadeja and Dhoni great efforts but just not enough. Top order today should be disappointed in themselves.
trabuch Posted 10 July 2019 Posted 10 July 2019 I'm taking tomorrow off work. (Which is asking for yet another semi final England defeat.)
Bobby Hundreds Posted 10 July 2019 Posted 10 July 2019 Win the toss, bat first, post 315, rain in the afternoon, come back Friday and bowl them out for 180. Ta.

I reckon India have a brilliant one day side...but I just believe they got over-confident,believed too much of the hype from Indian pundits ,home-media in England and back in India, there is nothing wrong with their game swagger, but like England the discipline of innings management sometimes goes a missing... They chased balls they didn't have to.. Kohli, again strangely enough failed when it mattered.. N.Zealand have got the bowlers that just find ways of delivering on such wickets. Especially when it went into the 2nd day. English wickets & weather,Indian players haven't got the patience nor discipline to sit in and wait, for the likes of Boult or an Anderson to get through those 1st overs The batsman are great fishermen.. Unlucky on Dhoni, Jadeja, great eye and produces great innings, but like Butler, doesn't quite know when to say "not this one"...but probably a weakness of many a top Batsman.Thats cricket.. Easy for ex players & supporters to be clever after the strokes have been made.. If England do go onto beat The Aussies,I hope we don't take the Kiwis lightly...

Because it's Dhoni and Indian commentators like Bohgel can't say a bad word about him - his innings today was ludicrous and leaving it at 31 off 14 or whatever it was with Jadeja having scored over 75 at a plus hundred strike rate was crazy. Even if he had been there until the end I don't think he would have got home. Great result though and brilliant match, wonderful seeing these tight knockout matches where you have to earn your runs and 250 is a competitive score. If we can't win it I hope the Kiwis do.
Dr The Singh Posted 10 July 2019 Posted 10 July 2019 New Zealand were awesome, come on England we can win this
Super_horns Posted 10 July 2019 Posted 10 July 2019 Well done NZ started on fire and a big finish too . ECB will hope even more we win .

It's what Dhoni does these days. It can be frustrating though but it just signals the end of him, for me. Today I didn't mind it. He knew Jadeja was in form so just rotated the strike cos he knew Jadeja was hitting the ball better. I'd have loved to see the Dhoni of 8-10 years ago and go absolutely nuts on anyone but quite frankly he's just not capable of it any more. This'll be his last 50-over tournament probably due to his fitness. Would he very surprised if not. He'll carry on in T20s though. He's had a stellar career and almost earnt the right to just play how he wants. It's been wonderful to watch at times and just a shame he had to bow out like this. But it's time for the next generation to take over (Pant especially in his shoes). I'd have to disagree about losing even if he was there to the end. I think we'd have done it off a last ball scenario. And for the record, I can't stand Harsha Bhogle and to a lesser extent, Ganguly and Manjrekar in the commentary box.
notnow john Posted 10 July 2019 Posted 10 July 2019 Well India made a right pigs ear of that! Shame really, the final will be quite sterile without their supporters.

Izzy Posted 10 July 2019 Posted 10 July 2019 Pissed off I missed it today with working. Really surprised India didn't make the final and gutted for their fans and @StanSP Talk on the radio driving home about maybe changing the format for the next WC? First in the group automatically qualify for the final, 4th play 3rd with the winner then playing 2nd place, and the winner of that game play 1st in the final (something similar to the IPL?) Could argue it's a little unfair that India don't go straight to the final for finishing first but I guess it's the same in Rugby where the best team over a season still has to go to the play offs. Anyway, the last thing anyone wants is a NZ v Aussie final and the Aussies winning. Hope England bring their A game tomorrow

IPL format is: Match 1 - 1st vs 2nd (winner goes straight through to the final. Match 2 - 3rd vs 4th (An eliminator. Winner goes through to another 'eliminator' to play loser of Match 1; loser of this match (Match 2) is out). Match 3 - Winner of Match 2 vs Loser of Match 1 Match 4 - Winner of Match 3 vs Winner of Match 1. I can see why they'd want a format change. It does mean an extra game, mind. Good luck to England tomorrow. I don't want to under-estimate NZ but I think whoever wins tomorrow goes on to win the final. It certainly won't be easy especially if there's similar conditions as today.
EastAnglianFox Posted 10 July 2019 Posted 10 July 2019 Yeah genuinely can only imagine what @StanSP was going through during the last ten overs or so. If England do beat Australia then yeah I think this was the best result But still a bit gutted India couldnt get over the line, massive fan of Dhoni and Jadeja so didnt know who to cheer in the end.....at least it was completed the correct way, 50 overs each.
HybridFox Posted 10 July 2019 Posted 10 July 2019 I'm incidentally in Birmingham tomorrow on a course! Anyone know if the big screen is still there? would be a fantastic atmosphere to catch the game once I'm done

It's a testament to how good those two are that there has hardly been a game at this world cup where one or both of them hasn't fired. Further to this, a little stat: The last time both Rohit and Kohli got out for single digits in any ODI was the 2017 Champions Trophy final. That's pretty fantastic consistency, tbh.

Going to be a great game tonight. Not confident as I reckon the England Batting order will be too strong for us. You have too many guns in your top 6 that it would be impossible to subdue all of them and we are very reliant on Starc taking a bag.

Hope England bring their A game tomorrow I'm sorry, but this format was solely designed to maximise Indian TV audience, and cynically cut some decent associate nations from a chance of competing as a result, so I've no sympathy with any complaint Kohli etc have about it. So nervous about today. I'd love us to steamroll them, I really would, but feel it's not gonna be our day somehow.
Chiltern Fox Posted 11 July 2019 Posted 11 July 2019 I'm completely distraught. Some changes for india coming up. I thought they had lost their soft underbelly. Apparently not. No matter how well nz bowled and fielded, 240 should have been got. I thought India purposely threw the England game, not anymore. Just dont think dhoni could step up the gears. Perhaps his previous exploits had set the bar too high for him. Still cant believe it. Fcuk.
Guest MattP Posted 11 July 2019 Posted 11 July 2019 Not been this nervous about a game of cricket for some time.

I always find it hard to gauge the hierarchy of importance in cricket, partly because I don't know the sport as well but partly because you've got all these different formats. Would you say the ODI world cup is the most important competition in cricket? Is it as big as the football and rugby World cups? Would you trade a decade of ashes wins for a wc win? Where does this rank, both for you personally, and in a global sense?
walkerleeds Posted 11 July 2019 Posted 11 July 2019 Australia having a bat first, not the best. Think we can chase 300 here though you know.
