Yep, I believe BT Sport are airing it for free via their app and YouTube and Virgin Media for free on TV if you have their services.

I get your frustration but....if I may counter...

You do have the chance to watch it - you just need to subscribe to BT Sport.

Or you can watch it for free, courtesy of BT Sport via their app and YouTube channel.

As far as I can tell, they are not obligated to do this as neither the Europa League Final nor the CL Final are actually listed in the "Crown Jewels" of events which are protected by law as being free to air:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ofcom_Code_on_Sports_and_Other_Listed_and_Designated_Events

Category A events are events which must have live coverage made available to free-to-air channels, although PPV networks may share live coverage. As of 2000, these events are:[2]

Association football:

Horse racing:

Rugby league:

Rugby union:

Tennis:

Multi-sport events:

Category B[edit]

Category B events can be shown on pay television, provided sufficient secondary coverage (highlights, delayed broadcast, etc.) is made to free-to-air broadcasters. As of 2000, the events covered by this category are:[2]

Athletics:

Cricket:

Golf:

Rugby union:

Tennis:

  • Wimbledon Championships (excluding the finals)

Multi-sport events:

I'm sure I remember reading it was part of the reason they got the broadcast rights way back when, UEFA didn't want the showpieces to be closed off to non-subscribers so they agreed to live stream the finals.

I did wonder that. So it sounds like more of an agreement with UEFA but is seperate from the OFCOM/UK Government deal

That was for their original deal 2015/16 to 2017/18. That's when you got BT Showcase and a promise to show the game on there and the final live on YT.  This new deal has no such obligations but they have agreed to make it free and available to everyone anyway.

I always find it amazing when people don't care a jot about the earlier rounds and then pile in how unfair it is that the final isn't live on terrestrial TV. Lobby your MP, lobby the Sec of State for CMDS to add it to the above list if you care so much. Don't realise it's a game you might want to watch then moan when you think it might not be right at your fingertips (and it is, YouTube. If you can't drag yourself to a pub or device capable of getting YT it's your own fault.)

I feel sorry for the other millions,that aren't hooked up..and/or can't afford

to pay for a final..in this over technical,

World..!!

Me..I am ok..In Germany, major events on TV. Also I have Sky.Uk, so see majority of these "A," events...

But even having Sky,doesn't guarrantee

A decent A-service.

Agree

I mean in the ideal world, everything would be free to air, right?

But we have to unfortunately accept that if we want to watch a lot of sporting events - The Ashes, The Ryder Cup, NFL etc then we have to stump up.the £££'s

The Europa League and Champions League are no different. So the fact we have a "free" option is pretty good tbf

I'm sure no one is THAT bothered, but who will you be 'cheering' for?

Chelsea just on the basis that I like Italian football and it would be good for Sarri to silence his critics. 3rd place finish, losing finalist in the League Cup and winning the Europa League isn't a bad effort for your first season. Plus Arsenal getting Champions League football will, in theory at least, make them more appealing than they already are

Aside from the fact that it would be awful for the fans who have traveled out there, I hope it's an awful occasion and an all round embarrassment for UEFA given everything that has happened.

Arsenal fan TV live from Azerbaijan, a destination most Arsenal fans have paid four figures to travel to and it will have probably taken them days to get there, and once they are they witness the final chapter in a trophyless season in which they failed to qualify for the Champions League?

DT will literally have a nervous breakdown on camera. Blue is the colour tonight.

I remember the days these finals were free and it was a special occasion!!!!

I ain't watching it on no YouTube and I don't subscribe/ pay for any TV channels so bollox to them all...

Anyone with a 'SmartTV' or even a smartphone should be able to watch if it's free on YouTube. Plus it's probably on in most pubs.

Only thing that perplexes me is the 3pm Saturday blackout - you can only fit 30k of our fans in the stadium and they're the only ones who can watch live in this country?

I know the old arguement was that it would effect attendance figures but I don't think that's necessarily true, also with these modern times(& all that) and the internet it just pushes people towards illegal channels of watching, there's huge demand & money being lost, it makes no sense apart from keeping people reliant on Match of the Day & local radio

No console? No tablet that can cast? Many set top boxes can access YouTube.

I'm currently watching it on Virgin's Showcase channel (channel 100 - just before BBC1 sd)

In case anyone is unclear on the subject, Robbie Savage is a moron who knows nothing about football.

If anything, that was leaning towards Lacazette getting a card for diving.

There is a You Tube function on Sky Q, and pretty sure both my TV's had the YT functions (although not checked recently). My sons' TV's definitely have it (I would have heard the complaints if it had been removed!)

Maybe it's just with talktalk Freeview box they've removed YouTube?

Might check straight via the TV without using the Freeview box.

Thanks

yeah not sure mate, but worth a try. My son has a Bush Freeview TV which has a YouTube app via the wifi. In fact he rarely watches anything other than YouTube [videos of idiots playing Fortnite etc) on it so I know for a fact the functionality is in the TV!
