Will the statue outside the station get vandalised despite Thomas Cook dying over 100 years ago?

I got absolutely steaming after the T20 loss at home to Durham and had a photo next to the statue, seems mildly prophetic now lol

TUI has taken advantage as you would expect. Their website crashed with so many people trying to book alternative holidays.

Three of my friends managed after 4 hours to book new holidays with TUI at around £1200-£1400 for each family in Turkey - by this evening the same holidays were over £2000!!

This is just the sort of thing that needs clamping down on. The hotels won't get anymore dosh - just goes into TUI's pocket.

Not having a go, but why does it need clamping down on?

A travel company has gone bust causing the loss of jobs and misery for tens of thousands of people.

Yet other travel companies shouldn’t be allowed to make a profit on a minority of flights/holidays when demand is high?

Airlines especially work on a reverse demand model whereby the earlier you book the cheaper the price - it’s really not profitable for a company to fly you to Greece, etc for thirty quid.

The money is made when demand is higher.

Like I said, not having a go at all - and I sympathise with those affected.

I heard similar complaints on the news and I didn't really get it. Just seems odd to criticise a company for not making money and then criticise similar companies for making money. :dunno:

As a an airline they weren't cheap so makes me wonder how they can lose so much money when airlines like Easyjet and Ryanair make so much!

Diane Abbot as chief accountant?

Obviously we just look at things differently. The holiday I quoted is now another £200 higher - just think the almost 100% increase in price inside 24 hours is being too greedy. It's not a minority of flights, there are thousands of holidays booked over the next few months via Thomas Cook. Anyway, just my point of view.

Bit odd the shops have been brought. Would have thought that is the most archaic, lost making part of the business, the rents/rates will be high.

I thought the shop estate was one of the reasons the whole thing was in so much debt.

Still good news for the staff at least hopefully Hayes can turn it around.

Hays must have a business model that works using shops. I'll be honest, I'd never heard of them, so no idea of their set up. Hopefully it's long term fix.

Suppose the shops are all in decent locations so even if they made a loss to begin with they could slowly sell them off to other firms and make a profit.

Surprised they owned that many as well. Would have thought a lot would be leased such as the highcross

We flew out to Kalamata, Greece, on one of the last flights on 22 Sept.  We didn't think it would go due to all the speculation beforehand and made it by the skin of out teeth.  We were flight only.  We returned on Sunday on the last repatriation flight out of Kalamata - which the pilot confirmed was THE last repatriation flight!  It was less than half full.

We had to return to Manchester, rather than Birmingham, so twice the taxi fare, but no complaints.

Interestingly, the plane had TC livery, but was owned by a Lithuanian company, who employed the pilots too, so was not affected by TC's collapse - other than having to find other carriers to do work for and a new paint job.

Unfortunately, the cabin crew were TC employees and so were very emotional.  The sympathy and appreciation from the passengers was amazing.

Thomas Cook has today relaunched as an online travel agent.

Good news, they’ve been forced to do what they should have done years ago. Some companies move with the times and others just stand still.

I hope it works out for them as the travel industry needs competition.

Definitely agree on both accounts. Was sad to see the true original go out of business.
