MC Prussian Posted 30 September 2019 Posted 30 September 2019 Well, a sign of things to come with the 2022 World Cup, I guess: - hardly any spectators - activities in 31 degree heat (at night!) - shoddy hotels - bad food - dodgy starting block cameras (invasion of privacy - female athletes complaining) Quote “The humidity kills you,” Mazuronak said. “There is nothing to breathe. I thought I wouldn’t finish. It’s disrespect towards the athletes. A bunch of high-ranked officials gathered and decided that it would take the world championships here but they are sitting in the cool and they are probably sleeping right now.” https://www.theguardian.com/sport/2019/sep/28/world-athletics-championships-doha https://www.en24.news/2019/09/criticism-of-starting-block-camera-pictures-are-blacked-out.html https://www.letsrun.com/forum/flat_read.php?thread=9612586
stripeyfox Posted 30 September 2019 Posted 30 September 2019 It's a totally unsuitable venue for this event for lots of reasons. I suppose the WC will be im November/December when the heat should be less of an issue. Seb Coe was on TV last week banging on about the air conditioned stadium, but judging by the state of some of the finishers in the distance event, it isn't working!
leicsmac Posted 30 September 2019 Posted 30 September 2019 Money buying a terrible and unsuitable venue, as others have said. Ugly.
stripeyfox Posted 30 September 2019 Posted 30 September 2019 The venue for 2021 is odd as well - Eugene, Oregon. Pretty much unknown on a global scale - population around 170,000 seems a strange choice for the IAAF World Championships. But apparently the city has "close links" with Nike.

Temperatures may be lower, but you're still dealing with the issue of humidity - November especially can be a killer. Comparable to Brazil 2014. And I'm curious to find out whether the amenities and services provided during the tournament are any better for footballers than they are for athletes at the IAAF event right now.
EastAnglianFox Posted 30 September 2019 Posted 30 September 2019 Felt for Dina Asher-Smith last night, took Silver in the women 100m final and did a lap of honour in front of nobody, literally the only people you could hear clapping were the commentators in the outdoor studio, really sad to see.
purpleronnie Posted 30 September 2019 Posted 30 September 2019 Might just be me...I always thought it was (a bit) odd that athletes who don't win the event do a lap of honour.
Raj Posted 30 September 2019 Posted 30 September 2019 It's all about the £££ Ruining an otherwise normally amazing spectacle. Be the same for the world cup in Dubai.
Mark 'expert' Lawrenson Posted 30 September 2019 Posted 30 September 2019 Currently enjoying the high jump!

It’s been a track and field venue for years and years because of the Nike link. Hosts many Diamond League meetings. In the same way Lausanne does

ScouseFox Posted 2 October 2019 Posted 2 October 2019 could be a good night tonight. dina has the 200 wrapped up and kjt just actually threw a shot put instead of just dropping it a yard in front of her like normal
EastAnglianFox Posted 2 October 2019 Posted 2 October 2019 Dina is elite level at the 200m but she can thank massively whoever chose the scheduling of events which left Miller-Uibo having to pick the 400 instead.
EastAnglianFox Posted 3 October 2019 Posted 3 October 2019 KJT quickly running out of events to bottle, could this be her time!!

steveherbe Posted 6 October 2019 Posted 6 October 2019 Wtf just happened in the mens 4x400 relay. Ffs guys, all you have to do is pass a fkin stick to your teammate, it ain't difficult. How much money wasted on training camps for those Muppets to screw up? Disgraceful performance.

It's what we do, we rarely get through a major meeting without messing up at least once. Didn't matter though we never had a chance at a medal. Fair play to the 4 x 100 teams though. And congrats to the womens team who make our medal total respectable. One medal for the mens team.
