There's a club somewhere that could really do with a Kingy and his professionalism. Young players could still learn from a man like him both playing wise and how to conduct themselves and succeed. I hope for an upturn in his fortunes in the new year. Maybe in the Championship but perhaps King doesn't want to drop down and especially with his relatively high wages compared to clubs in the Championship. I wish him well. He wont play another competitive game for us again. Unfortunately for him.

RoboFox Posted 20 December 2019 Posted 20 December 2019 When the Birch hangs out his microphone, Kingy would make a good club ambassador. Sure, he wouldn’t talk in front of 32k every other week, he doesn’t have the charisma, but he’s eloquent enough behind the scenes to do the job justice.

Gamble92 Posted 20 December 2019 Posted 20 December 2019 If the title winning season taught us anything, it's this stuff about 'levels' is bullshit. The foundations of that title win were built on those squad members who come on and gave 100%, and i mean 100%. Just look at how many top 4 sides haven't seen it through and challenged for the title with £30m players on the bench that were always "premier league class" or "champions league class". Give me the 'championship level' of Ulloa and King coming on and giving their all to support the cause over that. The club might have rapidly progressed in a short space of time, but you can look to each of those Premier League seasons and find displays and moments that he was absolutely key. It baffles me and actually angers me how anyone who's done what he has done for us can come in for so much shit. But i shouldnt be surprised when you look at the comments from our fanbase through the years.
ian_marshall Posted 20 December 2019 Posted 20 December 2019 Surely there's a starting spot for him at OHL. Keep him in the family until he retires then offer him an ambassador's role.

Win and you should have anyway, lose and you'll be ridiculed

Just needs games in my view and his professionalism I'm sure would benefit the club.

Remember when Corbyn said he would ensure fans made it into the board of football clubs? The above is evidence as to why that’s ludicrous

They already had 6 Centre mids and started the season really well so he hasn't been able to get in the team, especially since he's had a couple of injuries. I think this was a case of Gerrard doing rodgers a favour in taking King on loan. I personally think his playing days are over unless he drops down the divisions
Langston Posted 20 December 2019 Posted 20 December 2019 Saddest thing about his time with us is, unless I'm wrong (likely) his last game for us was the absolute shambles in Newport.

urban fox Posted 20 December 2019 Posted 20 December 2019 Really feel for the lad. Came up through the ranks, did nothing but gave 100% whenever called upon, one club man who really seems to wear the badge with pride. I am not naive or blinkered enough to realise that sometimes a players journey with a particular club comes to an end, sometimes through injury, age, or that they simply no longer fit into the system or better options become available. This latter unfortunately seems to be case with king, however I thought the way he was treated under Puel was shocking considering the loyalty and devotion he has shown to our club over the years. It is very easy for the keyboard warriors on here to simply dismiss him as past it etc but there is far more to his career here and this should be recognised. For someone who apparently is not good enough for us, without his contributions and, often critical goals, there would have been no championship win, no great escape and no PL title. For those with short memories let me remind you of a specific time and date. April 4 2015 at approx. 16:45 a certain A King scored an 86th minute winner against west Ham to kick start the great escape. There has probably never been a more important goal scored in our history. We were in the last chance saloon staring down both barrels with the trigger cocked at relegation and probably another several years in the championship. That goal was the catalyst, suddenly we had hope, the rest is history. Considering how poor he is supposed to be he has winners medals in the top three divisions (all earned fair and square by his contributions -25 appearances in 15-16) numerous caps for Wales and a European championship semi finalist. I get that as a club, we have moved on in terms of playing staff and we have better and younger options in his position, but It does upset me somewhat when people on here dismiss him so glibly. The word legend is oft bandied about but in his case it truly applies. I sincerely hope he finds a club that appreciates him in the final few years of his career and that, if he ever returns to the king power he gets the ovation he so richly deserves. I would love to see him back here in some capacity in the future, maybe in some sort of coaching role if that is the direction he wishes to take after his playing days are over.
HitchinFox Posted 20 December 2019 Posted 20 December 2019 Having first seen him during that God-awful season we got relegated to League One – and then witness him develop into a key player in the one season we had in the third tier – it just feels like he has been around forever. He really has been there for every step of our remarkable transformation. I think he was even one of the players chosen for that publicity shot in which Mandaric was handing over the "keys to the club" to Vichai...!! Therefore, I just can't fathom that he is, in fact, only 31. That's younger than Vardy! Mind-boggling.

Yes it did surprise me too but I suppose he was still only a raw teenager from the academy when he made his debut all them years ago.

You know all this is history now and I am not hinting that King should come back as a striker for us, although he might score as many as Perez , he had one prolific season 8 years ago but for some reason or another it was never followed up and who knows he could have made a half decent striker. He had a gift of losing his marker, and he is tall and a clever bloke. We will never know now of course , maybe he just saw himself in midfield but I am all for trying out different ideas and not putting players in rigid boxes.

Guest An Sionnach Posted 20 December 2019 Posted 20 December 2019 I am only guessing but he did get a big rise after we won the premiership. I do know though that Mendy is on at least 50 grand a week.
