Are Referees squeaky clean ?

For some people whatever money they have is never enough.

There is billionaires who still actively try to save every penny and avoid tax, so yes someone earning 80k can easily have their head turned.

I think the one oddity here is that clattenburg mysteriously quit the EPL mid season.  That was a very bizarre thing.  If I was the FA and found one of my refs to be corrupt, to minimise the bad press, I would make the referee quit, which is what he did.

There is also the fact that probably at least half of the football fans in this country are supporting either man utd, liverpool or arsenal, meaning that if a ref isnt born in those locations there is still a moderate chance they have a liking to one of those clubs and that could potentially sway decisions made.

We cant have the game ref'd only by robots though so we stick to what we have, but the goal line technology is clearly a step in the right direction.

To start with I am not” my mates the ref tonight “

My truck driver at work was a ref and ran the line to Championship level. He has some fantastic stories.

Lives in Cambridgeshire,however supports Derby.

Many years ago he was 4th official at Derby, and the ref got injured,he had to complete the match.

Derby player was fouled in the penalty area, but it was marginal.

He thought about it and admitted that because he supported Derby he WOULDNT give it as it might seem as if he was biased.

Think it was Dean Saunders as manager and he went mad at him afterwards saying he would make sure he never reffed a match again 😂

Dont think he told them who he supported.

I think they have tommorows headline in mind when they make decisions(clattenburg admitted to this when it came to the Chelsea vs Spurs game that won us the title)  but I dont think they're courppt personally. Too much negative pr for any club or entitiy that attempts that.

I don't think it's fair to judge them all based on what he said. From the reaction that got from former referees, i'd say that was quite a unique case of one very egotistical man putting his own career above the laws of the game. I think most refs would have sent 5 players off. I have to admit i'm kind of glas he did what he did and didnt give them the excuse like he says.

subconsciously referees favor certain teams and discriminate against certain players. they have in their mind players who they percieve to be cheats or who are always looking to get an advantage. referees should walk on the pitch with their mind a blank slate as to what previously went before or what they have heard or what reputation a player has. decisions should be based on what they think of the incident in that moment and not have other factors influence them.

I think the biggest problem is the way they are protected and more importantly they know how much they are.

Cant speak to them until 30 mins post game, don’t have to take any tv interviews etc.

Very rare any of them get sanctioned, especially their top flight boys.

Of course there always seems to be someone that seems to really have it in for each team. Chris Kavanagh is the worst for us, for me.

Came into this thread specifically to mention Chris Kavanagh. Other refs will do us over with some awful decisions, but break it up with an occasional competent game. Kavanagh has a record of giving awful decisions against us nearly every game, going back across several seasons now. Seems to have a real dislike for us for some reason.

Be shocked if any prem ref is fixing games for clubs or gambling syndicates and getting away with it in this day and age.

Most get more than 80k anyway, they’ll be getting friendless and cup games on top of that on top of that and half of them get to top it up with European games.

Only game I remember him reffing at Leicester was a pre-season friendly at home to Portsmouth some years ago, otherwise he isn't allowed to ref Leicester games as he is from & lives here.

Yes he probably has been to Leicester games but is far from a Leicester fan (in fact i'm sure he attended games with us as a teenager but he has always been Brizzle!!!) Didn't ref that game as stated in the Guardian as I think it was a just in case/too close to home/too much at stake as people will jump to conclusions "Oh he is from Leicester so must support them" but I can assure you he doesn't.

After today's shenanigan's, anyone prepared to re-consider?

If the FFP rules are in place to maintain the top table status quo, then VAR is also a tool to make sure no up-starts gate crash thr gravy train.

Football IS CORRUPT because of all the money in the game.

Platini and Blatter.

Why do you think the Premier League is immune, because we are British ?

**** *ff.

It’s all down to which FA you are affiliated to.

As well as expenses. They love the European trips, especially if they’re the fourth official. Andre Mariner especially loves a booze on a referees euro away day.

I was at the time and have been ever since, convinced that Jon Moss had a premeditated idea that he would send Vardy off, given the opportunity, when we drew with West Ham in 2016. At the time, we were top but Spurs were still in with a real chance of catching us. Vardy was on fire and was our talisman. The decision was nothing short of ridiculous. It wasnt just the ridiculous  nature of his decision to send him off, it was the way he couldn't get the cards out of his pocket quick enough and was like he hadn't even considered whether it could/should have been a penalty and just took his opportunity to send  Vardy off. Giving us a cheap pen at the end to snatch a draw took some of the heat off him but ultimately, his decision to send Vardy off could have  been huge for us given our talisman was now banned. Fortunately it didnt stop us but I'm convinced it was all a con by Moss. Maybe I've had too many beers? Maybe Moss is just a shit ref and a massive bell end? Or maybe he really is a bent, corrupt c*nt!

I dont watch alot of foreign games but is VAR/refereeing as bad abroad as it is in the premier league? Do we just have shit refs compared to other countries? Is VAR being used differently abroad, like are the pitch side monitors being used?

What do you think ?

£80,000 a year enough for them, or do you think they are "supplementing" their wages ?

Given what FIFA and UEFA officials have been doing AND the money earned by agents and players, do you believe that ref's are happy to earn a crust when everyone else is dining in style?

Thread merged or hidden ??

hard to say. you'd pretty naive to say that all is good. clearly something dodgy is going on in this sport ( and many others) today's game is an example of dodgy decisions. have to accept them if you follow sport unfortunately

Pitchside monitors get used all the time abroad. Even in the Champions League refs are much better than here.

The ideal scenario personally would be for the ref to watch the replays on the big screen while talking to VAR officials. That way they get a second opinion while still knowing what's going on (as does everyone in the ground). Works so well in rugby it's farcical they cant put two and two together in football
