This probably sounds stupid but as I’m going to be coming into contact with loads of people at the weekend I’ve gone for another PCR today. Been at Wembley 3x for the Euros, came down with a grim cough over the weekend but tested negative, mate has tested positive on lateral flow and there is no way I’ve not got it if he has and my taste has gone today.

Weirdly, I can taste sweet and sour but that’s it. If this test comes back negative I’m ****ing baffled.

Came back positive, imagine my shock. Good job all of the tests are accurate…

I honestly can't believe how bad the app has been.

It's hardly like we've paid BILLIONS to a friend of the government with no experience or ability during perhaps the toughest of recent times is it?

Yes, all of us advising that those pinged take a daily LFT and go carefully about their normal business should add caveats that

a) you don’t have any symptoms

b) you make a judgment call based on who you know you’ve been with and how likely it was that you could have contracted it

I know of a couple of people within my small circle who are using the "ping" to their own advantage - i.e. using the ping as an "excuse" to stay off work, whilst carrying on with their normal daily lives/socialising. Both are in jobs where they get full sick pay.

I'm sure there are lots more people doing the same!

Surprised people still having the covid app. I deleted it for the very reason I didn't want to keep getting pinged. I've been double jabbed so thats enough in my eyes lol.

I had 3 rough days with Covid, woke up Monday and felt completely normal so quite lucky there. Well and truly bored of isolating now and I’ve still got until Tuesday to survive it

It’s proved to me it’s impossible to manage. I’ve done a PCR the minute I got a slight tickly cough, done lateral flows etc and they came back negative. The good news is the vaccine has done its job and I’ve had a normal virus really.

You got your smell & taste back yet? That was the worst thing for me as my other symptoms weren’t that bad. Not being able to taste anything for near on 2 weeks was horrible though.

Nah I think mum starting to very faintly taste things again but can’t smell anything, definitely been the worst part about it for me

I must be the only one who didn’t lose their taste.

I didn't the first time I had it but this time, absolutely zero taste or smell. It's a very bizarre experience.

I'm staggered at their lack of foresight on this

And no way for employers to check.

I know people kicking back in their gardens instead of going to work who are fine and haven't tested positive. You do wonder if they even got pinged?

Or of people who a friend has been pinged and they've shared round the image to all get time off

Has anyone ate a couple of scotch bonnets to see if they've really lost their sense of taste?

I still get some spicy. I've been adding chilli to everything.

Also weirdly can still taste red wine vinegar.

The smell is weirder. Spray deodorant, nothing. Stick your nose in a bottle of white spirit, nothing.

I keep doing delicious farts, forgetting as I lean back to get a good whiff, then disappointment sets in as nothing. All I have for comfort is the complaints from my wife.

If they were confident enough to let the public go around with no restrictions, then for me, the test and trace/isolation rules should have been dropped.

You can't have hundreds of thousands of people positive at any one point and then expect them and close contacts to isolate, it'll be chaos..as we're seeing right now.

I hadn't even thought about the possibility that people would use it as an excuse to kick back for 10 days and claim sick pay.

It's the perfect excuse. No dodgy croaky phone call to your boss saying you're unwell - merely a cheerful "i'd love to come in boss but I've got to isolate"

then two weeks in the garden, days out and trips to the pub

Happy days!

My sense of smell is bad anyway so I’m used to it, but some food is pretty weird when the only sensation is texture.

Heat is a sensation so still feel it.

That's from before 'freedom day' too. I expect it to be over 1m next week

Yeah but KEEP CALM AND CARRY ON guys (ah, the mantra of an idiot) because the guys in charge know exactly what they are doing.

This cannot and will not end in tears (for politicians or the privileged other few too whom rules do not apply and whom profit financially from the dodgy contracts they are handed all the whilst this goes on).
