Off the top of my head:

 

The teams back then were largely home grown, so it was a bit more us v them.

 

The media were not as biased towards the big UK based clubs during the season, so there was more goodwill towards them.

I've just watched that new documentary on Sky - 'The Utd Way'.

Villarreal just haven't got any pace at all. OK on the ball, well organised, but they really do lack the pace on the break.
