Too many uses of the word 'mind'

Meant to say head instead of the second mind, ignore my silly attempt at humour / fake passive aggressiveness!

Criticism of a player doesn't make them a scapegoat.

It does on here ffs!

Looking at the state of this forum particularly the transfer thread I’m gonna go for Castagne. 99% have not seen him play but he already seems like he has an uphill battle with our ‘fans’. Poor lad. The lad hasn’t kicked a ball or even signed and he’s apparently not good enough... think I’ll give him benefit of doubt. Considering the national team he is surrounded by and playing in an absolutely dominant Atalanta team. But no, he’s not good enough for Lestah

Well the amount of times people blamed Chilwell for Barnes having a bad game on here because they didn't link up well as a partnership. As if Chilwell was making Barnes unable to control a football through bad telepathy or something.

It will probably be Barnes now he no longer has the Chilwell scapegoat to hide behind.

I can’t work out whether your post is full of irony or you’ve already started making Barnes a scapegoat!

It was meant to be both. The bit about Barnes not being able to control a football by telepathy and Barnes now being the scapegoat as he can't hide behind Chilwell was meant to be a joke.

But it's true that one of the biggest things Chilwell used to get scapegoated most for was when Barnes had a bad game (which all players do), people would always shift the blame on to Chilwell saying the only reason Barnes had a bad game because he can't link up with Chilwell. It was more supposed to be about the Chilwell scapegoating.

I agree with this, he's getting my vote for this season also. I for one think he'll prove a decent if at worst unspectacular signing but sometimes the writing is on the wall when people make their minds up so vehmenently about a player before even seeing him in action.

Agree I think he will turn out to be an astute signing. I can’t wrap my head around the slating the lad is getting before he has even kicked a ball for us. He’s playing in a flying Atalanta team and possibly one of the best national sides around. Yet many posters on here think it’s like Dennis Wise all over again. So sad

Yeah can see this happening. If he doesn't get off to a flyer, scoring a hat trick and getting twenty assists in his first three games the knives will be out because he ain't a right winger, hasn't won the Ballon D'or, didn't cost £100M and is not called Messi or Mahrez.

Personally i think he is a great signing but God help him if he makes a mistake or takes a while to settle.

I know opinions will always be divided on players but we seem to go to extremes. Either they are the new messiah (Vardy, Mahrez, Cags) or they are simply not good enough for the local park side (Ghezzal, Mendy, Chilwell).

Many on here seem to make up their minds before a player has even kicked a ball, never mind had a bit of a difficult start. Admittedly some players we have had really have not been up to standard but that is no reason or excuse to abuse them.

With the expected imminent departure of our best scapegoat (Chillwell)
Who will step up and replace him in our always balanced and positive match day/post match threads?

Im backing Madddison to take the crown... young, English and has hair.

your thoughts?

I think Brendan Rodgers appears to be making our physio the main scapegoat for recent spate of injuries... Harsh?

I don't think it will be Castagne.  He is a very capable player and not the kind of player I would expect to be error prone.

I am among those that are disappointed, or more accurately, underwhelmed with this signing.  Not because he is a bad player but from my point of view, because he doesn't fit the profile of the player I was hoping for.   I wanted to see a more attacking option to give us that cutting edge on both flanks.  Instead we signed a safe pair of hands.

I don't think I read any 'vehement' criticism of him in his thread but some of the self-appointed opinion moderators love to indulge in histrionics and seem to view any criticism of a signing almost akin to blasphemy sometimes.  There is a perception that people like myself will be waiting, pitchforks at the ready, for the first chance to lay into him instead of supporting the team, one to eleven.  I really don't expect that to be the case.

My vote for the condemned ruminant will be Perez, for me the weak link and with an outside bet for JV.  At some point age has to catch up with him and his powers diminish.  It can happen quite rapidly to some players.  Will the GOAT become the scapegoat?  I hope not.

By the way, that is a nice example of the histrionics I was talking about above.
