Science communication is a damned tricky thing right now, and this is one of the key reasons why.

The "deficit model" of communication is clearly ineffective, so other methods have to be used.

That all being said, as time ticks by I am growing increasingly frustrated with people placing their own short term self interest over the future of our entire civilisation, species, and life on Earth in general.

NB. Feel free to contribute in the dedicated CC thread if you want to.

Honestly I don't think making this point over and over helps.  Its not very credible.

It possibly doesn't help, that's true - another difficulty in communication.

It doesn't stop the facts of the matter being what they are, though. Believe me, I wish I knew a better way to make sure the frustration was no longer needed, particularly as time is going by and changes are happening ever more rapidly.

There's no sane reason to expect that things will be OK if we go on as we are, barring a completely undiscovered miracle.

Edit: I could frame things in a way that it didn't appear a factor - but what good does that dishonesty do?

If you needed to be over 60, I would still be OK.

this makes me laugh when it happens, all my accounts are over 18

Why is it not very credible?

It's one thing to believe one way is better than another; it's something else to completely dismiss it.

If history has told us anything, shrugging your shoulders and thinking everything will be ok if you do nothing, is certainly not a good idea.

I wasn't sure where to post this, but I figure here will do.

So I turned on my Playstation this morning and loaded up FC 26(yeah I play that stupid game) and was greeted with a message from EA about an offensive squad name I was using and how I'd be banned if a further 'infraction' occurred.

The squad in this particular case was all the best female players that I enjoy using and was named 'chicks'.

Now, I'm 56 so maybe I'm out of touch(probably so lol), but that in no way is meant as offensive. My niece refers to other females as 'chicks'.

I never even played a match online with this squad, so how exactly is this policed to where the squad name has now been renamed to 'Squad1' by EA.

I know the Dixie Chicks changed their name to just The Chicks because of the connotation of the word 'dixie' in the US. So, what should I call them now?

I am sorry to everyone that I offended by my thoughtless decision to 'inappropriately' name a team that no one ever saw. Well except for that one person at EA, who's got nothing better to do.

Ridiculous. Nobody is offended by these things, no idea why the overreaction.

On another point though I can't stand the me FIFA/FC series since it became walking FIFA Street.

I am not that brave lol

I did change it from the Squad1 that they gave me to SquadV. The V of course being the Roman numeral five, not vagina.

Ridiculous when you consider how so much popular culture is sexualised and is aimed at underage people

I get bored of people from the North West and those that have the bad luck to be from Birmingham moaning about Euston - but it really is ****ing dogshit. Shame St Pancras has adopted their approach of announcing platform numbers 1 minute before the train is due to leave - dire.

St Pancras is wild.

Massive station, loads of facilities, mountains of wealth gone in to designing and kitting it out.

But it's basically all because of Eurostar. The actual trains North is a couple of shit platforms, very little waiting area, a few narrow gates for everyone to fight through and like you say an actual shit system of managing it all.

All to try and fight your way through a thousand people so you can try to get a seat on an over crowded train.

I would say HS1 is a good addition. If going to the Kent coast from the north you don't have to do the old change of getting to Charing Cross before HS1.

Only discovered recently that the stinky stuff they spread on fields to help grow things that I always assumed was cow manure - it's treated human waste 85% of the time 🤢

In the research world it used to be called sewage sludge. Now, most researchers call it "biosolids" 🤓

I got on an LNW train to Crewe last Sunday at 1.45. They didn't announce the train until a few minutes before and I honestly have never seen so many people instantaneously move in the same direction. It's crackers.

All the rail staff are telling people to calm down/slow down, but it turned out the last train up was cancelled and the one before that cancelled mid way because someone was taken ill so it was a sardines in a tin situation. 10 carriages, and all those people were moving at once.

I would love to hear someone explain the logic for that system.

Absolutely bonkers, a truly terrible experience having to use that station. Everything about it feels on edge and tense for want of better terms.

Oldest lad had his prom last night now school is done and GCSE’s finished . I can not believe how quickly the last 5 years have gone with him being in secondary school . Feel like each year the time goes quicker 🙈

Time definitely flies by faster as you get older. Good luck with your son's future, buddy, any idea what he wants to do for the next few years yet - a levels, college, uni, apprenticeship etc.

Also, genuine question - but given that human brains are wired for pain as a defence mechanism to make you stop doing things - then why, from an evolutionary point if view, is that small pang of pain you get when you pull out a nose hair with a pair of tweezers so immensely satisfying and one of life's great small pleasures?

Perhaps because in some cases, the pain and pleasure reactions in the brain get crossed over?

Just goes to show the evolutionary process is far from perfect. See also; giraffes.
