When he first came through, he always had a decent left foot on him. Overlapped a bit. The more knowledgeable will be able to tell me why he seems quite reluctant to do that in this system. Teams are doubling up on the wingers and rightly so, surely would aid our wingers with the full backs overlapping ?

I thought he was calm and steady - rebuilding his career with us,

I won't claim to be more knowledgeable.

I think both full backs are asked to sit. Here are my reasons why: This supports our slower CBs. We were being caught out constantly last season with fullbacks out of position when we coughed up possession. Lastly, it allows our wingers to attack without the fear that if they lose the ball there is no one behind them. The CMs can come across to fill holes from the wingers and the CB can step out to interrupt the opposition as the Full backs are there to defend the penalty area.

I think it's a smart system for where we were confidence wise and gives us a platform to build upon going forward.

He's got Mavadidi infront of him, who is basically shit at getting back and defending.  If he over or underlaps we would get overly exposed.

Bit the same keeping Hamza behind Abdul and not starting Ricky.   Although Abdul far better at getting back

He is improving with games and at 24 as a defender he will improve with experience. Has a sweet left foot and is under rated imo - good move although I think 3 years with an option for another may have been prudent!

sorry but why?

hes massively one dimensional, he looks well out of his depth at times

and i still dont know if he has a right foot

we have better options at the club who suit the MC style more

Other than maybe giving Aluko a go (who I think is more of a right back) I don’t really think there is any other better options (Kristiansen certainly isn’t)

Wow.

Awful thought process, struggles in the championship.

Has not improved at all in the last few years, terribly limited footballer!

Physically and technically lacking.

Stunned.......

Based on what exactly, what does this so call sweet left foot produce, doesn't score or assist!

Don't mind that. He's going to be on low wages, if he ends up being a backup in the long term then fine.

This isn't like giving out a 4-year deal to thirty-something deadwood, if it comes to it I don't think we'd have a problem selling him on.

Not a chance.

Had a brilliant cross on him where he first came through

No clue how it has actually managed to get worse when he should be improving

This club never learns. 4 years is just outrageous

I think he will have resale, certainly at Championship level. Surely thats better than him leaving for nothing.

He's by no means world class, but i've felt he's been much more solid since getting back in the side. Lots of scope to still improve and he is ok for the level we currently find ourselves at.

Been offered about €5m for him by Hoffenheim previously

With some of the fees we were getting in the summer we might be able to somehow get closer to what we managed to get for McAteer
