IMO, he’s the only top quality  batsman we have

the others are great batters of the ball but it’s not the same thug

Root is the only batter who can build an innings regularly & bat for time.
Most of the others have a carefree attitude & rarely read a match situation. They’re almost too arrogant to even think Root may have hit upon something !

Brook is superb and he's the best Test batter in the world for a reason, but that was needless.

He is in the current snapshot stats
but I would argue that his cameo this session shows why he shouldn’t be (on many levels)

Root is far more dependable, Brook is a heavier and faster scorer when it clicks.

Would agree that Root is best when it comes to consistency which is what these things should measure, though.

He is probably the only batter that reads a match situation.

if England can bat until 5/5.30 they won’t be in a bad place. Root will know this.

The rest seem to want to get a lead of 275 as fast as possible. Against this attack, on a day 4 pitch, almost impossible.

Reckon that's the way to go. Bat pretty much all day to set a target of between 250-300. 'only' another 150+ runs across two sessions today, save for about 20 mins to have us batting at the end of the day.

Then a whole day to bowl us out which is nowhere near the realms of impossibility!

Ouch.

That sound reminds me of what happened to Livingstone in Big Bash. Got hit about 3 times in an over I think.

Hussain 'no balls left in the over' lol

Don't mind a bit of needle but really hope Siraj is the last wicker to fall tomorrow to secure victory. If he wasn't such a bellend he might the benefit of an umpires doubt.

Probably going to need close to 300 to stand a chance though.

I think I get what you're saying but not sure an umpire should be taking that angle...

You'd think so, but I think subconsciously you might think differently if you don't like the person. I think it happens in football too, its why certain players get decisions and others don't.

If I was ref/umpire, it would have to be nailed on if I thought you were a **** lol probably why I'm not...
