... looks like I'm the only one seeing the funny side of this one here, then. lol

It's funny alright, but only because they're a joke right now. So long as they don't get the hump with people laughing at them, rather than with them, as they say.

There really needs to be a separation of the appreciation for Stokes' talent and some of the most astonishing match winning performances I've known and this farrago! I can't help but wonder, given Stokes has basically orchestrated this with his announcement (I've not heard that it was leaked etc) and clearly it has been a bombshell to the team, that it must be some kind of huge F Off statement.

It's entertaining, but there's no way we stand any chance of chasing it, playing in this way.

For that reason, they shouldn't do it.

I didn’t think we had a chance but given New Zealand have lost O’Rourke, Sears plus their spinner being crap, there was a chance. But this just crazy.

The amount of entertainment value and who the mirth should be directed at is clearly subjective, then.

I will say though, that a standard team playing by-the-numbers Test cricket doesn't chase down this target in these conditions. Perhaps they hold out for the draw, but that's it.

Have England thrown this away?

No because there was close to zero chance of chasing down 373 anyway but the way we’ve played has been insulting tbh.

You've been able to get close to those totals before!

Maybe instead of trying this nonsensical bazball approach we should have just watched Daryl Mitchell bat.
Just bat sensibly.
The arrogance of this England team is unbelievable.
Lost 6 of the last 8 test matches.

Such a shame that this has all been turned into a circus & will thus detract from what a superb team New Zealand are. They keep losing star players at regular intervals, but, from a very small pool of players, keep finding people to replace them & be competitive in all formats. Ironic that England have a Kiwi coach who seems unable to install their values into them

They will argue that starting positively and putting new Zealand under pressure on a deteriorating pitch was the only way to win the game but you need a solid foundation to attack it tomorrow.

Just comes across as them not caring less

Hence why he said thrown it away isn't it? They were 4 down by playing like idiots

They’ve not thrown it away though, the chances of chasing 373 on that pitch are close to zilch regardless of how you play. They threw it away yesterday.

Not when we’ve been 4 down before 100, squad morale is a mess and the pitch is poorly

Well yeah, that's the thing. You've thrown it away right from the start...

Yeah Stan said have they thrown it away, then you referenced being 4 down, which is what Stan is getting at

Stokes great player, however

However too self indulgent and the statement "It's never easy with me, is it? It was an unfortunate situation to be involved in over the past two week"

Lack of taking responsibility for your own actions.

I'd like to see McCullum go, smashed by Australian and being out play by the Kiwis at home.

Brosd, Anderson and now Stokes gone within three years. Nearly 500 Tests between them.

We have a decent but injury prone bowling attack and a very ropey batting line up. Could be a tough few years ahead.

An embarrassing last couple of hours they completely chucked any hope they had away. Someone should have had a look at how Mitchell batted earlier. Hopefully that's the end of Key.
