He made a mistake he was punished, we move on. Didn't the victim deny it happened and defend him in court? Or am I getting my footballer abuse stories confused?

He’s got Salford or Leuven written all over him for that one more thing to achieve!

Either of those would be a total injustice to both his ability and his value to a team.

Well that's the dilemma with convicted people, right? The nature of the crime means a few fans will struggle to regain trust in him. Look at how Ched Evans, Adam Johnson and Dennis Wise are viewed, still to this day.

Seeming a brought it up and have been quoted so many times I thought I’d elaborate on the issue. My problem want so much the conviction but the nature of it. All domestic abuse is clearly disgusting but I remember the details of this case and they were particularly sinister. (Feel free to look them up as I don’t want to get anything wrong) The lack of any remorse is also deeply concerning as well. He also acted like a complete knob turning up for community service in a Lamborghini and then claiming he was getting too much attention and couldn’t complete it.

when he was convicted I just assumed he was going to be sacked and when it didn’t happen I wasn’t particularly happy. Once you commit a crime like that you should lose your role in the public eye in my opinion.

Also it’s been said before in this thread but Ched Evans conviction was overturned so it is a different story with him.

That's the clubs fault then for not sacking him?

He strikes me as someone that needs to accept he will never reach the same footballing highs he achieved with us and might be better off walking away from the game rather than being in limbo. I can't imagine it is doing him much good.

Surely if he misses it that much he would play for peanuts in the lower leagues? Unless he's spunked all his career earnings.

(I image the tone of that reads harsher than it's intended, he's a legend for us and I wish him all the best whatever he ends up doing)

You very rarely got a bad game out of the lad. His ability with the ball at his feet was limited and he'd be the first to admit it, but he was a 7/10 every week and every great team needs them. Deserves a lot of credit for turning his life around too.

At first glance, though this was about Drinkwater.

Shame that both of them went different ways, going through difficult circumstances (despite their own perceived faults in them).

It’s not as simple as just finding a club, especially in the current climate. And why would he drop to conference /league2 level to play regular football when he could clearly play higher? Some very strange comments in this thread.

I have very mixed feelings regarding Simpson. As a sportsman and what he achieved at Leicester there's no questioning the respect he should have. However this is very much overshadowed for me by his personal life which should not be forgotten. I personally am still some what surprised and saddened that the club gave him the platform they did as a role model everything considered.

...you do not know the situation which led the club to offer him a contract!!!

On face value no one can endorse what happened with him in that situation and doing what he did in that instance but he was given a second chance and took it.

I am sure the owners would have been aware of his misdemeanours and in a religious sense,  extending the hand of forgiveness, who can say that they, themselves did not apply that sentiment, to his reformation.

I believe he was convicted while at the club (correct me if I’m wrong). As previously said the lack of remorse is a concern as well.

Tis a strange one his partner at the time attended court with his little girl and told the court nothing happened?  (whether she was under duress or not who knows)

he was convicted on police statements as when they attended the address a police officer stated he saw Simpson with his hands around her throat?  What, really

happened is anyones guess but are they not still together as a couple?  I know Simpson has often said how much he loves his little girl etc.

Maybe got a taxi! He claimed he couldn’t do community service because his car drew too much attention. Surely you can’t defend that!
