To me its poor squad management.

Sold JJ without replacing him, who was given very harsh treatment by people on here but doing fine now with Leeds, at the very least he should have been replaced.

Constant selling of other first teamers without adequately planning ahead on their replacements.

This leaves us reliant on players who are either not good enough to begin with or who are past their best, Ricardo was brilliant at his peak, but nothing lasts forever, and I noticed his issues when we was in the EPL.

The best way to play him is probably where Enzo had him as old legs is not so important there.  But that option isnt there now as there is no one to cover his position.

We had a bloated squad, so we had to have outgoings. JJ was not on a small wage so a LFL replacement was never on the cards. Also, JJ still had good games for us - i am not buying that he is somehow doing better with Leeds - he is not first choice. And you know if they overplay him an injury is on its way.

We definitely needed incomings for LB/RB, but then, we should have been bringing Aluko in more. Seems we have Victor back as well who may have been playing with an injury before (clutching at straws with VK a little).

And to your Enzo comment, i think Riccy was poor 2nd half of the Enzo season. He was worked out and most attacks in the games we lost came countering on his side. His is the position we should have prioritised and we should have dropped the 'Riccy' role by now anyway. The odd concencius is that noone else is good enough to do it, but when Riccy is simply woeful at it and has been for 2 years - we need to change something.

Bren suggested Ricardo's position was flexible.

Justin Fofana Soyuncu Castange

                   Ndidi

Ricardo Tielemans Madd Barnes

                   Vardy

If we can keep those fit, in form and injury-free that's a CL team right there.

I’d argue that mistake had nothing to do with Ricardo’s speed or reaction time.

The whole sequence of play; the two side ways passes that resulted in him receiving the ball and being left with no forward or sideways option and then his indecisive touch, which provided the opportunity for Osman to nip in and come clear with the ball, gave a clear indication of a side suffering from negative mental tension.

More commonly referred to as “lack of confidence” it’s quite clear to see a number of our players are more concerned about not making a mistake; to the point they become over conservative with the ball; especially early on in games where you will play with a little more conscious thought.

The same issue can also prompt bad “in the moment” decision making; like the two inexplicable red cards we’ve seen in the last two games.

It should also be noted that - Ricardo competed with Osman a lot better in the second half. Yes, the fact we were defending deeper probably helped that, but he did manage to adjust and get on top of his match-up as the game wore on - so let’s not be too keen to write him off yet.

Sorry but this post highlights the bizarre “exemption from blame” that certain players get on here.

If Thomas made the same lazy mistake for Birmingham’s first goal, there would be pitch forks out for him.

Re-watch the goal back, whilst he isn’t helped out by the lack of movement, a player of Ricky P’s standards shouldn’t be having his pockets picked like that.

If there is nothing on, just hit a first time diagonal….the passing lane wasn’t blocked for that.

Agree. For me he's fourth in line this season behind Thomas, Reid and Ayew for horrific performances. He's been far far worse than everyone's bet noire, Wout Faes.

Obvs he has credit in the bank which immunises him from the type of stick he'd get ordinarily.

The whole team was terrible so it would feel harsh to pin it on one player, but it felt like we were covering for his lack of legs all game today. Norwich clocked it and at one point (wisely) got into the habit of just punting it behind him.

The telltale sign that a player's legs have gone is when the technique goes. And this is Pereira, he used to be fantastic technically. He now can barely kick a ball, let alone track back and keep up with his man.

Shouldn't start another game this season.

He's gone. It's tragic. He's absolutely woeful. Feeble. He was toyed with today by championship players who wouldn't have been fit to wipe his arse five years ago.

But he's a major major part of the reason we are going down.

We HAVE to start picking those capable of running hard, regardless of ability.

He adds nothing positive to the team.  He will keep getting picked because he's captain.  If he was a real leader he would step aside.

What has Aluko got to do?

Pereira offers nothing at either end. Reminds me of myself blowing after a couple minutes playing 5 a side.

Used to be a good player, but he’s never a Captain

We got a good season and a half out of him at the beginning, and he did well in his first FLC stint. But he's very obviously to the detriment of the first team now. And it's not just the legs. The number of times that everyone was behind the ball and he still left his man free was astounding. Not the only one, of course, but he's clearly useless now - shouldn't be captain - and we need him out of the side. As a regular starter, at least.

Terrible today. Getting pulled out of position constantly, can’t stop balls in behind him and can’t recover. They should have had at least a couple from that side but for their lack of quality in the final ball.

Sadly looking forward to seeing the back of him in the summer.

Didn't think he was that bad today, not as bad as donkey Okoli and hopefully hes out for rest of the season

Oh mate - Riccy was complete garbage today. No physicality, no pace and can barely get a ball anywhere.

Where is his replacement that is slowly being phased in?

(Every other club is going the simple stuff of replacing aging players)

I'm not even a football expert but I've known for the last 3-4 years that he's past his best.

Ipswich have done their homework. Clear strategy to target him, which is causing us massive problems.

Doesn't matter how well a game is going for us, if all that teams need to do is pump a ball over our right back to get in behind us, we're going to concede chances and eventually concede.

Fatawu played right back in that half. Ricardo just sort of played in a weird pocket between right back and centre half as the game passed him by.

On a number of occasions BDCR was closing and gesturing as if to say 'where the fvck is Fatawu?' when the ball went out to their left back. He was at right back, mate.

You can't have that. Not only is Fatawu not a right back, it neutralises him as arguably our greatest threat moving forwards. It also allows them to sustain attack after attack as they have an out ball every time down that side.

I am fully on board with the idea that if we go down it won't be Rowett's fault, but I'd just love to have a manager recognise obvious faults like this and find a viable solution.

Some will point to a good draw away from home, but that's only by some minor miracle.

Ricardo simply has to be dropped, not that Choudhury was much better. Perhaps a change in the revered formation we play that has served us so well in recent years?

Aluko is clearly deemed not ready, so play a 3 with Lascelles.

'But then we'd have to drop Luke Thomas as well.' Yes. Yes we would.

Play a 3-5-2. We then have an extra man up there to occupy an opposition defence, something we haven't managed all season. We need to find a way to get Mukasa and James into the same 11 anyway. Am I missing something? Can't be any worse surely?

Who are the two CFs in a 3-5-2? And do you want to see Mavididi as a LWB if Thomas is dropped? I'm not sure on either score.
