Most of the things JJ was blamed for was not really his fault on an individual level, we just had ignorant fans blaming him, ignoring how the team lost the ball earlier in play etc. He even got blamed for that Forest goal when Ricardo lost possession with a back heel. Also Cooper was asking him to play basically RB and RW. Fans seem to be perplexed when he was caught up field. Ignore the fact that someone should be covering. Then it became popular to just lay any goal at his door if a cross happened to come from the right hand side 1
Popular Post Pliskin Posted 7 January Popular Post Posted 7 January (edited) Why not just deploy him in midfield? It’s clear he can’t get up and down the wing like he used to, and he was class centrally under Enzo….. and reason why he can’t just play as part of the double pivot? Marti has to something different….. Edited 7 January by Pliskin 7
coolhandfox Posted 7 January Posted 7 January (edited) Ask yourself the question, how may players performance have deteriorated under Marti and how may have improved. I don't think one player has improved under his leadership, but a good few have got worse. Edited 7 January by coolhandfox 1
pkonline Posted 7 January Posted 7 January Ricardo always comes across well but never seen him as a leader. He's not the player he was pre-injury. I kinda feel sorry for him because at his best he was brilliant, and could have moved to a bigger club. Instead he's slumming it with us! 1
brookfox Posted 7 January Posted 7 January Not the player he was, but still probably my favourite player in our squad so I’m deaf to any criticism of him! Don’t know if it’s his legs or the tactics but there seems to be a distinct lack of him attacking recently. Pre-season he’d be right up there supporting the winger almost in a wide #10 position at times. Distinctly remember a couple of times vs WBA he’d bring it forward, pass to Abdul then almost stop. Our left back tends to do the same so assume it’s tactical to avoid a counter but it’s killing our wingers as it leaves them isolated and one on two at times. 4

Marti has to something different….. Something seems wrong with Ricardo, not just his legs. He seems reluctant to drive play forwards and passes back more than Thomas. Even when high up and involved in an attack, he dithers and sends the ball back rather than just the whip the ball in. A static Abdul doesn’t help. He should be using his experience and being the captain to speak up to Marti that his tactics are crap. He can offer simple pass and moves that JJ and Fatawu should be splitting these teams apart. Even without is legs we know he is better than what we are seeing. 1

Him as captain and Hamza as vice captain is symptomatic of the malaise of the squad rather than reflective of any real leadership skills. Both players get it almost be default as the players who are most experienced (i.e most stale/been here longer than everyone else). 2

I suggested that he could only play regularly in middle of the park on here a few times over the last 18 months or so and was hounded for daring to suggest his body couldn’t hand regular stints at full back… seems opinion is changing finally, has been clear for a while imo. 2
Bablemikey Posted 7 January Posted 7 January He has a great career behind him at LCFC but he's done now, sadly. 1
Guest Sharpe's Fox Posted 7 January Posted 7 January He's finito and gives more balls away than a one armed snooker player.
Ross 'LCFC' Turner Posted 20 January Posted 20 January Will go down as the best right back I’ve ever seen for LCFC (pre ACL) but my god he’s absolutely finished now, it’s tough watching him like this. Roll on June to put us all out of our misery and get his wages off the books. If he was a racehorse he would be shot dead!
moore_94 Posted 20 January Posted 20 January I love him but we should be seeing if someone back in Portugal wants to pay even a small amount of his wages to take him on loan until the summer I would say he is just blocking the path for Aluko to get game time but I doubt Cifuentes would give him any more game time even if every full back was gone 1
frany104 Posted 20 January Posted 20 January Absolutely finished. So sad to see. club legend but he is completely done now. 1
sm1 Posted 20 January Posted 20 January He's not fit enough like the rest of the squad. Matty Fuching James is out pacing our team. Let that sink in.
Heart-Shaped Fox Posted 20 January Posted 20 January If Thomas wasn't so shit, we'd be all over Ricardo more than we seem to be. He's living off 5 years ago. I don't think I've ever seen such a big decline in a player. Constantly giving cheap shit fouls away or out of position

More dreadful management tonight to bring him on as a replacement and rather than let him sit in midfield, let him get absolutely mullered at right back.
Rubbersoul Posted 20 January Posted 20 January He’s finished but let’s get it right the manager should not be bringing him on tonight

adam Posted 20 January Posted 20 January Absolutely finished, Rudkin will give him another year though
kingfox Posted 20 January Posted 20 January Glad this thread is active, because he’s been infuriating me lately. He’s been a great servant, and injuries have clearly hampered him in recent years, but from a pure captain perspective, he ain’t no fvcking leader. All I’m getting right now is a guy who gets rinsed, gives away free-kicks, then moans and waves his arms about. We don’t have anybody at this football club that is captain material, our so called leadership group is the fvcking pits.
Marshall Cockney Fox Posted 20 January Posted 20 January I dont think he can play on the flank anymore. He's immobile. Could he play in the middle more consistently to utilise his experience and passing? But he'd need a lot of support with the grunt work. If not the pony needs shooting.
