He made a mistake, it can happen. But its another indicator that he's just that much slower to react, in speed and brain, which is sad to see.

A real shame its going to end like this. Unless we have a rudkin special contract renewal.

Has been utter garbage for 2 years now Cooper was right about him.

RB for me is a bigger problem for me than LB and costs us way more goals, Ricky as captain and one of our most paid players should lead by example and set the tone for the rest of the team.

We are looking league 1 at both LB and RB

Right back is fine as we have Aluko. Just play him and get him ready for L1. Jayden Joseph is performing well too. Both of them will be good for where we are going to be next season. Need to offload both left backs though. Too much water under the bridge and we need a new face there.

I know that we have all loved Ricky P.

BUT this thread not being commented on since the 24th January is criminal.

If Thomas makes such an obvious mistake, his thread would have had an additional 5 pages by now.

I have got to the point where I don’t want to see Ricky P play for us anymore….just start Aluko already.

He's been terrible all season.

People were going mad when Cooper wasn't picking him but now it makes sense.

Why does he seem immune to criticism? He’s been just as bad as Thomas and both need taking out the side. I commented on Ricardo in the Coventry game but people seem to want to always shift the blame onto others and shield him.

Even worse, I’ve seen people blaming other players for passing to him rather than punting the ball forward. Could you imagine if one of the academy boys makes the mistakes he does yesterday ? Even worse is that Riccy has got lucky this season!

Riccy has been our worst defender this season. I don’t care about the past, you have to call it as you see it now. At home games we sit right in front of where he defends when we defend the kop end. The amount of poor defending and misplaced passes from him is staggering. He is just way off it.

He won’t be able to play Tuesday surely?

I think many, myself included, have not wanted to acknowledge the decline of Ricky because he is now our one remaining link to the good times. I remember travelling to Brighton in 2019. We won 2-0, and for the first 20 minutes we destroyed them, with Ricky cruising up and down the flank. Travelling back on the train a Brighton fan simply smiled at us and said "you were just a bit too good for us." They were mid table.

Happy days. We were second. Kasper didn't have a shot to save. Fifth win in a row. We'd won those five by an aggregate of 17-1.

As a full back. Maresca used him in the best way for his capabilities. He is finished as a full back, he should either play centrally or not at all.

There are still times where you see the touch and vision but it is diminishing returns. I think there is more sympathy because he is battling against nature rather than mindset.

But he cannot play as a right back any more.

Leave the football before the football leaves you.

Football has left him sadly.

Way, way past his prime

It’s now 2026. How many clubs have the same RB from 7 years ago. Especially one who has spent so much time injured.

To be fair Ricardo wasnt just any right back at that time, he was a top 3 right back in the PL in 2019 neck and neck with Trent Alexander Arnold and Kyle Walker. He was far too good for us and should have made a £60mil move to PSG that summer.

Factoring in the above it was probably still worth persisting with him through injuries, he was our best player as recently as 23/24.

It's time to move on now though.

Nah. Just let the dog enjoy his retirement and let the young hungry dogs play right back.

His passing has been absolutely shocking all season, and he constantly moves into positions that his legs can't save him from.

I went to the West Brom game and the amount of running Okoli was having to do to cover for him was outrageous.

Even at his folklore best he was questionable defensively .But quite good going forward

Once his legs went with the injuries he became a liability. He would never have got near the league winning squad, but was a half decent signing  compared to the rest of the dross signed later.

Cooper had it spot on as he seen him in training each day .A nice bloke a steady player but never a LCFC legend ,time for him to be released.

I've never seen such a big decline in a player. It's not just his legs and pace that have gone, it's the speed of thought he's lacking seemingly now. His decision making is terrible. Gives so many needless fouls away and is just reading the game so badly. He's had injuries but shouldn't be this bad at this level surely.

Definitely should be dropped for Aluko. Not getting in a full back for either side is looking a mind boggling decision now, we're so bad on both sides.

Have to add I also think he's one of the worst captains we have ever had. Gsr too nice and typical of this crop of players we have.

The wrong choice to be a captain, too; he just doesn't have the presence of a captain on the field (not that we have any other candidates).

A few times at home game Fatawu had completely lost it and Riccy, playing on the same side of the pitch, did absolutely nothing. Really disappointed with him.

Think the captaincy has killed him, since his injuries he’s always gone about his business under the radar.. take a break out the team when he needs to for his fitness and what not. Now he’s probably the most recognised player of a very poor group, expected to carry us and unable to contribute as much as a captain needs to. I don’t think he’s a natural leader and I don’t think he probably wanted to be captain either.

To me its poor squad management.

Sold JJ without replacing him, who was given very harsh treatment by people on here but doing fine now with Leeds, at the very least he should have been replaced.

Constant selling of other first teamers without adequately planning ahead on their replacements.

This leaves us reliant on players who are either not good enough to begin with or who are past their best, Ricardo was brilliant at his peak, but nothing lasts forever, and I noticed his issues when we was in the EPL.

The best way to play him is probably where Enzo had him as old legs is not so important there.  But that option isnt there now as there is no one to cover his position.

I’d argue that mistake had nothing to do with Ricardo’s speed or reaction time.

The whole sequence of play; the two side ways passes that resulted in him receiving the ball and being left with no forward or sideways option and then his indecisive touch, which provided the opportunity for Osman to nip in and come clear with the ball, gave a clear indication of a side suffering from negative mental tension.

More commonly referred to as “lack of confidence” it’s quite clear to see a number of our players are more concerned about not making a mistake; to the point they become over conservative with the ball; especially early on in games where you will play with a little more conscious thought.

The same issue can also prompt bad “in the moment” decision making; like the two inexplicable red cards we’ve seen in the last two games.

It should also be noted that - Ricardo competed with Osman a lot better in the second half. Yes, the fact we were defending deeper probably helped that, but he did manage to adjust and get on top of his match-up as the game wore on - so let’s not be too keen to write him off yet.
