What the refs are saying is that it was going backwards out of his hand and then came forward off his leg/foot. 

 

It looks like a terrible call to be honest but there you go. 

 

I've seen us lose games to England based on some of the worst decisions I've ever seen to be honest so eh. It goes both ways.
