On the 606 phone in the other night with Sutton and Savage they were discussing the best value for money signings ever. Not one single mention of Mahrez, Kante or Vardy. Sutton said Van Dijk for a measly £75m and Savage was saying players like Vieira and Peter Schmeicel

Vardy was the whole point of the discussion as someone said he was the best value signing ever, and Savage did mention him a few times. Sutton really didn't get it. Started comparing the £1m spent on the likes of Cantona back in 1993, when that was quite bit of money. Spending a record fee on anyone, even if they are catalyst for success isn't value for money. Finding a hidden gem for next to nothing is. Arguably Salah has been a better value signing for Liverpool than VVD as he has has as much impact, but half the price.

Mahrez was obviously great value at £400k or whatever it was. Vardy too. Kante was a snip at £5m when you think how good he is. Anelka was £500k back I'm 1998, that was nothing even back then. I think Arsenal got good value for Henry and Vieira, but they Still paid decent money, so it might be stretch to include them.

Ah I must've missed the beginning of it then, only caught Sutton banging on about Van Dijk

Could argue even us signing Maguire was better value for money in the sense we got a couple of years out of him and then massive profit

I was intrigued as to what people defined a premier league signing to be?

In my eyes it was a signing made by a club in the premier league at the time, which would then rule out Vardy and Mahrez immediately. But with sky debating the issue and plenty of people, including Carra and Neville stating that Vardy would be theirs - are they defining it as a signing made by a current premier league club at any time? Eg us, when we were in the championship.

They probably don't even realise we didn't sign him whilst in the Premier league lets be honest

Was giving Neville and Carra the benefit of the doubt but yeah you’re probably right.

Out of our lot it has to be Vardy. Can't think of a single player that has had as big of an impact to their club in a very long time

Sadly, he doesn't qualify for this.

Sutton and Savage ae wind-ups on that show, I'm sure they just say the most stupid and asinine opinions to get responses and coverage on the Twitters.

Anyway, £80m Maguire is the best value for money signing ever.

I heard this debate on TalkSport yesterday and couldn't decide what they meant by PL signing?

Assuming Vardy is included, he would probably be the best signing in the history of our club.

However, being a little bit pedantic, it would be very difficult for anyone to argue against Mahrez as the best "value for money" signing in PL history as not only did we benefit from the enormous riches we gained by winning the PL title and all the CL revenues that followed (which can be equally attributed to ALL players in the team).....we also netted a £60m profit in transfer fees and its difficult to think of any player in PL history where there has been a +£60m transfer fee profit in addition to the PL title and CL revenues.

Im sure we could possibly have sold Vardy for an enormous profit at some stage but i doubt that will happen now so we cannot tangibly quantify his "value for money" in same way we can with Mahrez.

(PS  Spurs made £77m profit selling Bale to RM but not sure if that would be included?)

Yeah good point although I'd say Vardy's goals and all round contribution have been of more value than the fee received for Mahrez. It's close though

I know they included Vardy but him and Mahrez fro me can't be considered as the best premier league signing simply because of the fact they were not premier league signings.

If you are Schmeichel has to be in that question (Kasper not Peter) as 1 million for 400+ appearances and counting is extraordinary

I think these would be my picks. Mainly chosen on value-for-money. Fuchs and Elliott unlucky to miss out, as is Youri who, despite the huge fee, is so integral to how we play.

1. Huth £3m

2. Kante £5.6m

3. Ndidi £15m

4. Evans £3m

5. Albrighton £0m

(Only included players signed when in the Prem)

Maddison is also a bargain. You wouldn’t sell him for less than £60 million + and probably + a LOT.
