There’s an extremely strong case for Dennis Irwin at Man U.

Donning my Leicester cap, in my opinion, it’s Huth. He transformed our season prior to winning the league. Obviously Ngolo is in the same category for his work of that incredible season where we won a title or something.

Maddison is also a bargain. You wouldn’t sell him for less than £60 million + and probably + a LOT.

For us he's worth bringing into conversation but as the premier League as a whole I don't think so. Maddison still has some way to go. Also he wasn't cheap when we bought him.

In terms of Premier League signings it's Cantona by a country mile.

In terms of Leicester signings it's Vardy by a country mile.

Our best value premier league signing is kante. Best value for money ever is between Mahrez, Vardy, Schmeichel and Morgan.

Best ever premier league signing for me is Thierry Henry. Great player and a snip at £10m (even back then)

I can't say I would have Cantona in first and certainly not by a country mile.

Strong cases for Keane, Vieira, Schmeichel, Bergkamp, Lampard, Drogba, Vidic, C Ronaldo, David Silva, Agüero, Shearer et al.

Henry is maybe the most revered player though.

Guess he signed for Man U pre Premier League.

Kante for us by a long way.

Outside of Messi and Ronaldo we arguably had the most effective player in the world at that point. Staggering when you consider we spent a decade out of the top flight before that.

Albrighton has to be up there. What other player cost nothing and went on to win a League title.

Off the top of my head Milner, Matip, Sagna, Fuchs, Ballack, Campbell but I agree he's been an excellent value for money signing none the less.

In terms of value for money, Vardy has to be the best. A striker always costs the most money. Cantona you cannot deny is a great player and revolutionised Man United but £1m was not cheap back then compared to what it was in 2012. Mahrez at £400k is a good shout too, but he wasnt here long enough to make the same judgement.

Would you class him as a premiership signing though

For us, Izzet on a technicality (only became permanent when we were promoted?)

Best ever is a nightmare question. Claude Makelele cost Chelsea a decent sum, but arguably changed how we define a decent def mid.

Another Chelsea one that comes to mind is Lampard. He wasn't exactly cheap at that time but his fee wasn't record breaking and he was a generational talent who defined Chelsea for years winning loads of trophies on the way.

On the 606 phone in the other night with Sutton and Savage they were discussing the best value for money signings ever. Not one single mention of Mahrez, Kante or Vardy. Sutton said Van Dijk for a measly £75m and Savage was saying players like Vieira and Peter Schmeicel

Mahrez and vardy wasn't premier league signings

It's such an establishment question in the first place. It takes out all the great signings of teams on the way up.

Yeah, another good one.

It's too difficult to work out the criteria for 'best ever'. I mean, Augero cost a fortune, but was probably the catalyst for man city suddenly winning so much, and has given them 10 years of service. Then you've got someone like Shearer, who was a world record fee, didn't win a damn thing, but over 10 years defined Newcastle. They're not going to be best value, but clearly changed and defined the clubs they moved to.

Exactly what I've been thinking. People have for me been putting too much thought into the value paid for a player. For example you could you can compare Cantona and Shearer. Yes Cantonas fee was smaller but was he a better signing than Shearer? In my opinion no.

No tbf I wouldn't and I'm surprised Sky included him on their list but even if we had signed Vardy for less than £10m when we got promoted, I would have made the same argument. He's more or less averaging 20+ goals a season for us, excluding 14/15 when he played more on the wing, and lets be honest the service he gets over the same period has been poor compared to the likes of Kane, Aguero, etc...

Part of me thinks if he had the likes of Silva and De Bruyne feeding him, he'd get 30+ goals a season which is a scary thought.

I agree with a lot of the names that have been mentioned on here but I'm suprised Morgan hasn't been mentioned? He's been our glue and had such an influence on a lot of our players that perhaps you could argue that he has been one of our most important signings also.
