I need a new TV

You should definitely be able to get a C2 55 with 1k in Jan.  It's a fantastic TV btw.  The gaming mode it can do is genius.  Just take your time putting it together as the stand is a bit of a faff (if not wall mounted) as the instructions aren't great.

Will be wall mounted, I’ve used them a lot at families houses which is why I’m so hell bent on getting one, can get one now for 1k but really want to be a bit cheaper if possible why I want to hold on until January because can’t see them going back up.

Which one did you go for? The main thing with them models is I’ll be using it for gaming a lot and hope to future proof it with the 120hz refresh rate.

To be honest I wouldn't recommend OLED as a monitor.

I use mine as a PC monitor regularly just for general use and browsing, and have experienced burn in on the top (favourites bar icons is the reason why) and right hand side. And that stays visible on all inputs now.

If you have regular UI icons on games that stays on screen during gameplay then you'll definitely get some burn in over time.

I have a conundrum at the moment. Not quite TV but used as a TV.

I currently have a Dell monitor which I use for work as a second screen for my laptop. But on the off day, I double it up as a TV for the bedroom by connecting my Amazon Fire Stick.

The monitor has built in speakers which are pretty decent to be fair. However, I would love to be able to connect headphones so that I don't wake the whole household when I'm binging something before bed!

The question is how to do it? There is an audio jack (which the manual says is not suitable for headphones but rather an output for external speakers)

Even so, I don't really want to be plugging in wired headphones that would need a very long cable to be able to reach the bed comfortably.

I ideally want to be able to use my wireless headphones that would connect to the monitor. The monitor itself doesn't have Bluetooth connectivity so does anyone know how this would be possible?

In my head, I'm thinking I would either need some sort of adapter or docking station that would wire to the audio jack or HDMI cable and transmit over Bluetooth to my headphones.

Or potentially connect an external speaker that also had outward Bluetooth connectivity (do these even exist?)

Has anyone done this at all or can help? Any advice from tech savvy people would be appreciated!

I'm away for New Year in accomodation that has a big Phillips telly with the motion smoothing very much turned on, and having just read a very long thread on X about how 99% of people seem to hate it, wondered what the consensus was on here.

My personal standpoint: it appalls me. I mean, each to their own, but it strikes me as just weird that it's a "feature" that seems to be turned on by default on a lot of tellies so you have to go into the settings to deactivate it

Horrible. Makes it look like stuff was filmed at 200fps for TV on a cheap GoPro.

That's the word: cheap. It makes things look cheap. Spend a grand on a telly to make everything look like Neighbours.

Distressing numbers of people in that X thread saying they live with people that cannot tell the difference or - even worse - want it turned back on when corrective action is taken

My mum is one of these. She'll happily watch an SD, over saturated, with colours bleeding, poor blacks, and over contrasted picture and say it looks fine. Does my head in as it's horrific.

Is a Firestick worth having and will I be able to watch City games if I "adjust" it, somehow?

We have Virgin media with all Freeview etc plus Amazon Prime and Netflix. I binned off Sky Sports after we got relegated so I can't watch the few Sky EFL games involving City.

I know the EFL is broadcast in other countries and people do watch via the Firestick but is it a simple fix to bridge the streaming restrictions in the UK?

You would need to subscribe to an IPTV service, and then yes you can watch all our games, plus all sports channels, movies and box sets for around £60 a year

The number of times I've been in holiday self-catering accommodation and I have to alter the display settings as everyone seems to have a radioactive glow to their face.

Weirdly, every tablet or phone I've had has very basic display settings and other than brilliance on a dark or light day, never had to adjust the settings, so why do TVs let people muck about with settings?

Having said that, the default settings are often poor anyway. Skin tone is my reference when adjusting the picture. Get that right and everything else follows.

Anyone used the warranty offered by Richer Sounds. I bought a TV for the bedroom 13 months ago, a 55" LG OLED,  which has developed light bleed down one side and across the bottom, only noticeable on dark scenes but very distracting when it happens.

Daughter used it for gaming over christmas and she said it was quite bad and should be covered by warranty.

I got a 6 yr warranty at the time so well within the time frame. I've tried calling their warranty number but can't get through, answerphone messages only both times I tried so I just used the online form but didn't get an acknowledgement email?

I'm sure they are very good but wondered how they process the repair? Do they take the TV away and leave you without or give a loan TV?

I've never claimed on any warranty before so :dunno:

I had a little Samsung telly from them that was never going to be used much and this developed an area of faulty pixels not long after I got it.

Pathetically I didn't take it back to the shop for about 4 years and they sent it off to be repaired, and when they concluded that they couldn't fix it/it wasn't economical they gave me an 'adjusted value' or some such as a contribution to a replacement. I cannot remember the exact numbers but I got a brand new, current (and therefore quite a bit better) and bigger replacement for about twenty quid.

There was never any bother at any point, and aren't you in the manufacturers warranty anyway, as they're generally now 2 years I think? I expect they're busy with post Christmas returns - have you got a shop near you?

Cheers, I thought they were one of the better retailers so not unduly worried. The warranty is a Richer Sounds warranty, the paperwork only gives their in house numbers so that was my first call, I’m sure they’ll put me on the right track.
No shops near to me, I live in the middle of nowhere in North Wales so hopefully they will collect it for repair.

Won't be repaired, just exchanged.

Be interesting how you get on as I've got a Richer Sounds extended warranty on my Philips OLED.

Philips OLED ambilight.

Great TV.

Do you like the Ambilight? The cottage I'm staying in has got a Phillips telly with this on and I think it works quite well.

I bought some LED lights for my lad's bedroom before Christmas and that site was selling kits to do the same thing for any telly. I wasn't convinced this was a good idea but having seen one in action I think it's quite effective. I've no idea how good the retrofit kits are

4 sided ambilight is just brilliant!.. I've had Philips ambilight TVs for the last 15 years or so, I would miss it if I changed manufacturers now.

Retrofit led lighting isn't the same IMO!!
