Talking of loanees to league 1 and after reading Pompey's forum,  George Hirst has failed to impress that much by the supporters. He is not strong enough, does not read the game and always seems to be in the wrong place at the wrong time, which for a striker is not good. Shame that, he looks as though obscurity is only around the corner for him on his return to the club at the end of the season.

.....the style of play we have at present may not suit him, but I would still be interested to see how he plays with Braybrooke and Alves and Maswanhise around him!!!

We are not exactly focusing on an out and out striker for the U23s, but I do think he will be great with those players supporting him.

Reece Evans has scored 4 for the U16's this afternoon. The lad is a machine, can't fathom out how he's not with the U18's yet.

Am I right in thinking he is of Zimbabwean descent? might be confusing him with someone else.

Is he playing age appropriate so he’s 15/16 this academic year and will be scholar next season?

He's 16, turns 17 next season. You want to see the size of him though, he's bigger than most 18/19 year olds so I don't know why he's not yet been promoted. Scores obscene amounts for the U16's.

Is he bagging due to being able to physically bully the other players?

I'm getting visions of Lukaku as a kid

Romelu Lukaku - The 13-year-old that was bigger than his referees

If that ref is 6 feet tall...

Maddison has posted a picture of himself in training with Braybrooke. Good to see Braybrooke in training with the first team already. Maybe he and Alves won’t go on loan and instead will slowly be integrated straight into the first team because of their talent, similar to how Foden and TAA were brought in.

Also nice to see Maddison sharing that, imagine Braybrooke would be chuffed with that, and makes me think Maddison rates Braybrooke as a footballer as well

Maddison seemed really supportive of the youngsters in the FA Cup match against Watford. The thing about Braybooke and Alves is that they are probably too young to get a loan next season, so they will continue to hang out on the fringes of the first team, at least during training.

http://sportwitness.co.uk/pity-defender-reveals-leicester-city-regret-spoke-rodgers-several-times/

Slovan Liberec defender Justen Kranthove has revealed his disappointment at not being able to breakthrough at Leicester City earlier in his career.

The 21-year-old is currently plying his career in the Czech Republic after signing for Slovan on a free transfer in July 2021 after a year without a club.

Before that, he had been at Leicester for two years, first joining their Under 18s from AFC ’34 Alkmaar U19s in 2018.

He would quickly make his way up the ranks at Leicester from that point, making 19 appearances for the U18s before being promoted to the Under 23s in 2019.

He would fail to make a single appearance at that level, though, and instead was released on a free transfer in July 2020, spending a year in the wilderness before his move to Slovan last year.

It was not how he would have envisioned things going for him, and he admits that it came down to the club changing their plans under Brendan Rodgers.

“I was already in my last contract year. After Brendan Rodgers came, you saw the changes at the club,” he told Voetbal Primeur.

“They also scout differently now, and you can see that in Leicester’s soccer. It’s no longer holding back, shooting everything forward and playing on the counter; you need more now to get into the first team.

“I did find it remarkable because, in my last year, I trained quite a lot with the first team.

“I spoke with Rodgers several times; he thought I was very good football-wise, and from his assistant Kolo Touré I often got extra training. It’s a pity it was my last year because maybe things would have changed for me.

“But yes, that’s soccer. I spoke with the head of youth programs, but he stood the same as the trainer of O23 and wanted more older players. Everything changed after me, and those other guys left.

“What was behind that? They were boys of seventeen, eighteen. There’s a big gap in between. The players now are much younger because they sent away guys my age.”

Well, he seems to imply they wanted to move towards a more possession based style.

It seems he means scouting for the U23, which I think we have all noticed: They don't seem to signing 21-year-old rejects to make up numbers as much.

Don’t get the o23 trainer and wanting older players comment?

Beaglehole selecting older players year after year and delaying the progression, glad we've finally sorted that.

Beaglehole favoured older players in his U23 side and we didn't loan players as much as we possibly could of as he proffered to retain them in the pursuit of trying to win at U23 level. It's quite clear we are trying to change that but it takes time.

Takes time, Yes. But look at the average age of the U23s now compared to under Beaglehole! I think Leshabela (recalled loan) and Thanawat (<<cough>> Thai national <<cough>>) are the only over 21s?

It is night and day.

Yeah, the takes time comment is more about it all working in unison between the age groups. We still have a bit of a lack of players in certain positions in the U23's and I'm glad we haven't simply gone out and picked up some 19/20 year old striker and winger just to play there, only should we be recruiting such players if they are of the right ability to progress in to the 1st team within a year. It will take time to have enough players in every position come through the U16's to the U18's and U18's to the U23's.

That said I still think there's merit in trying to buy the very best academy players from other clubs we can get our hands on. We don't do it anywhere near as much as our rivals.

Going to get tickets for the game against Liverpool u23 at Seagrave on the 25th this month, anyone know when they usually release tickets?

Cant see anything on the website about the game.

I’m surprised it looks like we’ve only managed to sell around 700ish tickets for the U23s game vs Derby on Good Friday at the KP!

My first chance to get down and watch them, can’t wait!
