He's destined for the 1st team IMO, I'm even more certain of him than Alves due to the types of player they are. Both look unreal though.

 

Popov is giving this U23 team a proper presence as well up top and it's creating much more space for them to get on the ball and work the pitch.

Really enjoyed watching the workrate of Popov. Absolutely harrassed the Derby backline. If he was a bit stronger, he takes the ball off their centre halves a couple of times and gets a one-on-one.

 

Sat in front of a couple of agents. They were proper whinging about Maswanhise not being used properly, and that he was making runs and not receiving the ball. They also referred to him as "JT". Anyone know if that is his nickname or something? Found it bizarre.

 

Absolutely loved Alves' Maradona dragback in the first half. Created a lovely chance first half where he ran at their backline, looked like he was going to get a shot away but unselfishly squared the ball.

 

Leshabela... far too good for this level now. Can tell he has been training with men who play for their living. Hope he can make a career elsewhere when he inevitably gets moved on. Love to see him get a Bafana Bafana call up one day.

To be honest, with recent performances from Harvey Barnes, I’d rather give Will Alves a blast from the left wing in certain games and get Lookman starting the majority of games. Barnes has been woeful in recent times and it could give him the rocket up his arse he needs to find some form again. We know Harvey can be quality but he’s far too inconsistent at this point to warrant constant starts on the left wing.

Alves could be really dangerous as an inside forward on the left. He’ll also be able to provide cover at CAM. 
 

Young Will is a great fit for the formation we’ve been playing recently against Palace/Brentford/Man Utd.

Barnes is quality.   He needs to be trusted and nurtured.

Just watched the 4-minute highlights video on lcfc.com and it's literally just the goals and slow-mo replays from the same angle. I know it's probably not worth the outlay to get some top-notch editing work (plus they're not that likely to have the cameras set up to give multiple angles) but I'd have thought we'd get a few other good moments of skill or other chances in a video that long. It'd be nice to get a bit more of a sense of how the game went.
