If we are trimming some.of the current squad, could he become a squad member next season?

He's 22 in May so he'd have to be counted as one of the 25, I'd say at this stage that looks very unlikely. If Rodgers wants 5 new players and we've got about 27-28 senior established players then we need anywhere between 8-10 players gone in the summer which seems a big ask.

Next loan for Wright is the Championship. He’s followed the same path and progression as KDH - and is getting the same noise/praise out on his loans too. Let’s see if he can do a KDH-at-Luton-esque season next year.

What Rodger’s wants and what he’s gets will be two different things. Club seem to have let him down quite a few times when he says what he’d like…

I think we have to play on the KDH rise to stardom with him. Convince him to sign a new 3 year deal this summer and then loan him to the Championship, 1 excellent season there and then he's 1st team for us at 23, or we move him on for a few million minimum and he knows that's a plausible option and won't stagnate.

I hate the idea of signing contracts with U21 player with the intention of just loaning them out.

As I have mentioned before, I think Hirst, Wright, and to a lesser extent Eppiah are victims of a needed transition in how we handle our development of players.

I could see both Hirst and Wright being offered the kind of deal you are mentioning (Eppiah, not so much), but I would hope we won't have too many players in their position in the future.

I think next year will be interesting. We have a few 20-year-olds who will need to go on loan. I would also hope some of the nearer clubs (e.g. Northampton, Peterborough) might be up for taking younger players on loan, since they could live at home and commute. We have a lot of talent and it would be good to get them out of the U23 bubble (and allow more promotions from the U18s)

I only want to see it for players who arguably could be a fringe player here already and they're tracking nicely like we saw with KDH and now Wright. I'd sell Hirst and Eppiah has to be released.

...we do not the funds to bring in all the players he claims that he needs!!!

He is more than aware of the club's finances, and unless he wants a bigger budget, he will have to wait until we complete our infrastructure program or go elsewhere with a bigger budget.

I think either his first or middle name is Jethro

Nice one, that one escaped me!

Now all I can think of is that Cornish comedian/singer...!

I was impressed with Popov yesterday, I don't think he has that explosive pace and trickery to be a winger so it's right that he's been concerted to playing centre forward pretty much exclusively all season. I could well see him developing in that role, he's strong, he's not by any means slow and he holds it up well. Hopefully his finishing is good enough, so far at the levels he's been playing at it appears to come naturally to him!

While Jamie Vardy still feels ten years younger than he actually is, it may not be too long before Leicester City have to have a serious look at replacing him.

A fully-fit Jamie Vardy is still among the best Premier League strikers on his day, his record of 10 goals in 18 Premier League appearances this season proves exactly that.

But now is a better time than any to start the hunt for his replacement, and that could start closer to home than many would expect. City need only look to their under-18s.

Seventeen-year-old striker Chris Popov has scored an incredible 20 goals in 24 appearances at under-18 level this season, including 18 in 20 league games. It is his first year at the level having been released by Manchester United as an under-16 towards the end of last season.

It means he will also be eligible for Leicester's under-18s next season, though he has already broken into the under-23s squad and earned himself a starting berth. Popov was a left-winger at Man United, but he has developed physically over the past year and has transitioned well to become a number nine for City.

His first-half performance against Derby County under-23s on Friday afternoon raised eyebrows among the supporters in attendance. It was like watching the Jamie Vardy of 2015-16.

Popov had seemingly endless energy to close down and chase lost causes. He gave Derby's right-sided defenders and goalkeeper a torrid time. He closed down balls out wide and at the goalkeeper's feet with the full energy and force Vardy displayed in his pomp.

The Wales under-19 regular, who has also represented his country at under-21 level, took to his task on the King Power Stadium pitch like a natural. Wales manager Rob Page watched him in action for the under-23s against Manchester United at the training ground last week and it is clear to see why.

It would be too soon to suggest a 17-year-old who has been at the club for less than a year will definitely go on to replace a Premier League great in Jamie Vardy. But Popov is certainly showing all the right signs.

I reckon Wright will be sold as a decent academy profit on whatever we paid Blackburn rather than put on the busy first team track along with Braybrooke, Alvez, Popov, etc.

This is my guess. He won't be in the playoffs, so will be training with the squad the last couple of weeks of the season, so he will have a short window to impress.

he’s definitely got something about him, a good loan to the championship next season and could see him getting a game or two for us

Love that. Great little editing. The numbers popping up to number the Pompey players he goes past made me chuckle!

He plays predominately as an AMC, right? Wonder if he could work as an 8 for us in the future...

Be interesting to see if braybrook plays today, obviously couldn’t play Friday being away with firsts. If he doesn’t I’d guess he’s in contention for squad place Wednesday?
