As it's a friendly, I think Maddison and Barnes have a chance. Will probably be ignored at first but then called up when all the Liverpool, Man City and Man Utd players start inevitably pulling out.

Barnes is the only likely candidate , as long as Southgate overlooks his weak defending. He is one of the most dangerous attackers in the PL. Thing is though we are not selling him at any price and England duty unsettles our players.

I think the lack of a left back will encourage Gareth to go with wing backs and that puts paid to a wide player like Harvey getting a look in as a fresh face ….

Barnes should be nowhere near the England squad. He’s done well the past 5 or 6 games but then was well out of form for like a year before that.

Plenty on here moan when Southgate picks Out of form players at big clubs, you can’t have it both ways.

None of our players deserve to be called up right now. Maddison before his last injury did but I think his latest injury came at the wrong time.

England squad pretty much as expected.

Think Madders is the only one really hard done by as he’s been in better form this season than both Grealish and Smith-Rowe (who doesn’t even start for Arsenal) but Southgate clearly doesn’t rate him. I’m fairness suspect Bowen would likely have been in ahead of ESR, had he not got injured.

Thanks Gareth …….

Shows how unbelievably defensive some of our fans are when simply suggesting none of our players deserve to be in the squad when we’re 12th in the league and there’s endless threads about how poor our performances have been all season, gets you accused of being some kind of lackey. :P

If I was Maddison I would **** England off and go Irish.  He would be their star player.

Ward-Prowse (set pieces aside) is half the player.  Guess Southgate just loves a brown nose!!

How have Shaw & Maguire been called up??

Becuase they have never let him down blah blah blah!

So uninspiring that.  Hoping to bore our way to a semi final again.

Amusing how Bellingham gets preference over Sancho. Shows you that moving to Germany enhances your career. Man.Utd. will be paying £75 million for him next.

My ‘jokey’post was based on the fact that you were right ……

Preference over Sancho? In what way ?

You guys will try to moan about anything.

- Ward-Prowsse and Maddison don’t play in the same position, Maddison is an attacking midfielder and JWP is a defensive/deep lying midfielder. Maddison is up against Mount and Smith-Rowe, Ward-Prowsse is up against Rice and Bellingham.

- Bellingham and Sancho play in completely different positions. Bellingham is a box-to-box/defensive midfielder and Sancho is a winger.

- Shaw is about the only fit English left back right now. He’s there because there’s zero other options.

Excellent news. Gives our boys a rest before a busy end to the season. Who gives a toss about a couple of England friendlies?

This was my thinking too.

Maddison deserves to be called up regardless of our league position. He has 19 goal contributions since October. He's in his best spell since being here, it trumps ESR's and both Grealish this season and even last season.

Poor on Gareth. The rest don't deserve a call up right now, although again there's plenty who'd have done what Barnes has done in the last 6 weeks and have got called back up again.
