Maddison has been in such consistent form since his return from injury. But no let's pick people we've never heard of, out of form, or coming back from injury!

 

Southgate is just a FA puppet!

 

Glad our lads will get a rest at least, but I hope they don't consider moves away because the mentality seems to be if you play for Leicester you don't get picked!!!

Poor on Gareth. The rest don't deserve a call up right now, although again there's plenty who'd have done what Barnes has done in the last 6 weeks and have got called back up again.

This. On a club level I'm pleased, they need a couple of weeks off. On a personal level, Maddison can feel very pissed off. All this talk that he has to show consistency and form, he does that (in a struggling team who'd be worse off without him), as you say better than other players around him and he still doesn't get a chance in a friendly.

 

At least we know it isn't a club thing, he's not going to play for Southgate wherever he is. You can see he wants to play for England but whilst Southgate is there he's got no chance. Shame for the lad.

Southgate a selection policy really annoys me as it encourages players to move to "bigger" clubs. If Maddison was playing for Arsenal or Man Utd, he would be in the squad

The "big" six employ only a few English players so they tend to get talked about and hyped by clueless hacks .

Happy for our players to have a rest but annoying when players outside the big clubs have to play better for longer to get picked. Always been like this. Weller, Worthington, Lineker etc should have been capped sooner and more often.

Ward-prowse has been poor as well, a really lazy squad selection by Southgate. Friendlies are for experimenting.
