The point is the people of San Marino having a football team to go out and take on the best in the world.

I really hate this elitist bull crap attitude, what’s the point in this or that team/nation.

It’s the World Cup, everyone deserves to compete in the World Cup.

thats not the problem, its how eurocentric the world cup is mate. i tell you african qualifiying is a blood bath, yet only 5 teams can go through. anyone can beat anyone. for example, the central african republic beat nigeria! the whole european qualifiying along with asian qualifiying need to be restructered so that these minnows dont enter. in comparison, african sides like niger who are poor at least put up a fight. most matches are competitive. same with south american qualifying

As a Scotland fan I'm delighted with tonight's result.  As a Leicester fan.. I shudder to think about the Chelsea game!  Kasper was decent but Vesty was utterly hopeless.. #prayingforacleansheet

Vestergaard won't play.

Jonny Evans getting rave reviews tonight.

Saw him nutmeg a player near the touchline late on.

The talk sport lot were raving about him just now and agreed he's better than Slabhead!

A quick look at tonight’s results tell a slightly different story. Teams with 0 points and -25 goal different over 6 games, leads me to think they might not be as close as you think. Niger who you called poor, won 7-2 tonight. What does that make their opposition? Possibly worse than San Marino? At least on a par.

Maddison just look at Gallagher and Smith-Rowe playing tonight and wonder how he's ballsed it up internationally.

He definitely should have had more caps but that crap with the casino and covid rule breaking will have marked his card for the future.

It can't just be that, given the misdemeanours of Walker, Grealish and others with Covid rule breaking.

He's not consistently returned to pre injury form, others have progressed, it's not a massive surprise he's not been picked again.

Djibouti are an exception mate. Look at all the other groups. Also notice that you don't see teams like Swaziland for example. That's the equivalent of san Marino. There's always bad teams of course but no where near the level of San marino and malta etc. Not every African team gets an automatic slot. That's what I'm referring to. And it should be like that. Let the minoes fight to see who's best and who's not and then a couple can qualify.

Arsenal have their first bit of mildly good form in about 6 years and, bang, 3 of their players are starting for England. We practically spend the whole of the last 2 seasons in the top 4 and our group of good young English players barely even get a call up to the squad.

In the last few seasons, pretty much all of our top English players have had some sort of involvement with the England squad... Maguire, Chilwell, Maddison, Barnes... Even Demarai Gray got a call up (although that was probably partly due to the game being at the King Power).

They've been unlucky with injuries. Justin and Barnes were both expected to he called up for the Euro's this past summer before they both got season ending injuries. Once the 2 of them are back to fill fitness I'm sure they will he back in the fold. If they both stay fully fit for the next year and can both find their pre-injury form, I have full confidence that they'll be going to Qatar

Which ones are you referring to who missed out  ?

Barnes and Maddison before their injuries both had extended periods of good form. In fact both were virtually on double figures for goals scored last season in the PL up until they were crocked just over halfway through the season. Justin was the other one.

They both made England squads and got an appearance

then they picked up bad injuries - I think both would have made the euro squad if they hadn’t

both were also competing in a v tough areas too

We also know that JJ would have been selected if he hadn’t got crocked

there is nothing to see here

chilwell and maguire both played whilst they were with us

Thomas is regular U22 LB

And we had the U18 captain yesterday

you can label Southgate with a lot but ignoring non top six clubs for players isn’t really one of them ….

first half of last season Barnes was up there with the best players in Europe for goals and assists he got 1 call up and a couple of mins in a friendly he should, on form, have been in every squad he didn't get a fair crack to suggest otherwise is just false

He played nov ‘20

the next england squad was selected mid March

he did his knee end feb

are you suggesting Southgate should have picked him with his knee in a brace ??

some of you are way too quick on your keyboards ……

Oh my god

Vestagaard special for both scotland goals last night lol

The second one you can actually see him slow down rather than try and get back. I know he's very slow, but not trying in inexcusable.

The second one, he's not glances across the line once and only moves up when his cb partner comes into his view. Then like you say, it's the lack of desire to sprint back, if it's fruitless then so be it.

He's a massive ball watcher and seems to give up incredibly easy. It's not a great mentality for a CB. A far cry from big Wes.

Got to say, I've really tried to defend him since he's been with us. I really want it to work out for him with us....but, yesterday, that second goal, made me cringe. There's nothing worse than a failed off side. slowly plodding back, with hand in the air!
