I don't read it like that. Situations change and perhaps there was an optimistic take initially, one that didn't pan out quite as hoped. BR might have operating under that initial impression. Consider it a managerial equivalent of kicking tyres.

Or the club thought were naive in thinking they could get sell some of their experienced players who aren't part of BR's plans and when it became apparent it was harder than initially thought, they pivoted to the current position.

Or they are trying to run thing’s sustainably and don’t want to fall foul of the FFP limits about to come into force. Assuming also the club thought they’d be able to move a few players on. All plans now in tatters etc.

But I guess it could be anything, your imagination is the limit but we ultimately don’t know anything and it’s all guess work.

All plausible explanations to a degree but it does feel like BR is trying to make a point to the media that the changing position took him by surprise and that would have been before it became apparent that we wouldn't exactly be flooded with offers to take our dead wood. Seems like it could have been better handled by all concerned which leads me to wonder if there wasn't some deliberate intention by the club to isolate BR.

Let's be honest, back in May we all expected youri and cags to go. The fact those two are still here is incredible based on my thought process in May. The same could easily be the case for the club

Reading way took much into it imo.

The FFP rules changed in April as well don't forget, the club may not have got a full grasp on exactly what that would mean until after the season ended.

Things have changed along the way.

It's indeed possible that the communication channels could have been better but I wouldn't personally read any deliberate intention into that either.

Sounds like the club thought they'd get rid of a few of the dead wood quicker than has played out and hence the change in availability. And maybe a case of less revenue coming in from somewhere to also put a dent in the available coffers. This sounds like purely a wage issue as had been mentioned rather than money available

None of this makes any sense, you'd just sell a high value player and reinvest. I'm baffled I really am.

Guessing selling has been harder/ not wanted (Madders maybe?}

The club could have got rid of some quicker but opted to play hardball, that's what makes this all very very very odd. We aren't behaving like a team that needs to sell, wants to sell or wants to buy. Weird.

I'm glad we didn't given Ricardo is now injured but Atletico bid £40m for Castagne apparently, although it was back loaded and not much up front which for the selling club isn't great for the accounting of it but for the buying club doesn't make as much of a difference due to player amortisation.

Yeah, something isn't quite right. I think the current position makes sense overall - it's not sustainable to have such a large squad but we want to retain our top talent - but how we got there is the result of serious mismanagement and follows a lot of confusion.

Things just haven't been run properly which is not been the case for some time, you'd have to go back to the transfer window after we won the title for a worse transfer window.

Feels like we lost sight of what made us so successful and now we're pivoting back to it, but we need to make some tough decisions to get back there. You wonder if the owners have been too tolerant, which has led to complacency, and now they're putting their foot down.

Some extremely dubious twitter accounts linking us with Jacob Greaves, Young English cb who recently rejected a new contract at Hull:

“URGENT: Leicester City are interested in Hull City centre-back Jacob Greaves as they anticipate Fofna's departure. He could move for £15 million. Previously wanted by West Ham in January. #LCFC #HCAFC #WHUFC”

What do you expect? The lad who wrote the tweet was getting his school stuff ready for his first day in high school. Madness that people bought into it.

Presumably nonsense

They have far too many good players there. Don't see how he'd regularly start, which is what he would need?
