Bloke across the way has a large tarpaulin covering his in-progress conservatory held down by a few breeze blocks.

I've got the popcorn out. Can't wait for lift-off.

But this storm is not the product of climate change - if you try and argue that it is then the nay sayers will prove that it isn’t and then the masses are turned off the whole debate because you are wrong on this micro point.  It’s not another day, just as all the notable wind storms going back over the past centuries haven’t been.

I think we might be agreeing but talking past each other here, allow me to clarify:

Is this storm a totally linear direct result of climate change? No, or at least probably not.

Is the climate, driven by human action, changing in a way that could result in situations like these becoming much more likely rather than once in a blue moon affairs as Line-X describes above? Empirically, unequivocally, yes, and if there is another school of thought that thinks they won't I'm going to have to see receipts.

My general annoyance is with those who would say "well, we've had shit like this before" and then proceed to do nothing and advocate for no change to the status quo because they think - terribly, horribly incorrectly - that things *aren't* changing on that front. Such attitudes and inaction will cost us a truly mammoth price in the future.

The noise of it will blow my mind. Planning when it gets bad to spend as long as I can manage on the running machine in the garage with music blearing out to drown at the noise hoping when I finally cramp up I’ve still got a roof on my house and my garden isn’t full of broken fence panels.

When is the worst expected in Leicester? Deathly calm at the minute. Tree isn't even blowing.

It"s horrendous in Kettering. The drive down the M1 this morning wasn’t great

As a former resident I can confirm this is true.

Heard about a plane that left Bordeaux to Gatwick, got to above London, couldn't land, then had to turn back all the way to Bordeaux :o
