The windscreen of the van in which the passenger was killed yesterday. Must’ve been like something out of Final Destination

I’m not one of those to shirk a day at work, but at what point does it become irresponsible of an employer to send their lads on the road to work on a day like yesterday? (For those that can’t WFH)

I mean, I'm not trying to sound heartless here but if that's one casualty(and a freak one at that) does it really justify shutting down a day's worth of operations?

Guessing because so much was shut down in a precautionary way, it meant there was less chance of the above happening.

Trains, buses, tubes all stopping is sensible. Not just to avoid injury/death to people but structurally too...

I know building sites yesterday what just called it quits and didn't bother turning in. At best Fridays are normally 2pm finish with the vast majority off by noon.

I agree with you. We all take risks every time we get into a vehicle. But you minimise the dangers don’t you. You don’t get in a car with someone who’s drink driving etc

It all seems pretty much like no big deal until something happens to you.

My mates sent me his dashcsk from yesterday of a lorry toppling over on a motorway near London. It narrowly missed a van that had just overtaken it.

Scary stuff but the driver was OK thankfully

Used the wind to my advantage today, had a massive fire in the garden. Got rid of loads of crap, normally all the snobby neighbours would complain but I figured they wouldn’t know where the smoke was coming from today.

They won’t find it if it did end up in my garden. 😬

I'm in Central Nottingham and had I not known any better I'd say it was just a bit windy today.

Weathers just gone absolutely mental for 3 minutes

Like another fierce storm that we weren't warned about. I had no idea. Walking to the pub to watch the game and I got absolutely battered by wind and rain in the final 200 yards and walked in, drenched. So sudden. Or sodden, even.

Hammered it down the second we stepped out the pub to walk to the ground

Still absolutely soaked through and feel like my feet are going to fall off lol

Driving back to Northampton from Bedford on the M1 at about 5 o'clock and it was like a sheet of water tipped on the car. Pretty scary.

Got off a junction early and went through town.

I was debating carrying on the M1 and dying, just so I didn't have to listen to Clinton Morrison's live commentary.

Cold front squall line

Precisely this. The cold air mass arrived at exactly that time yesterday afternoon. Also, on a micro scale, you can encounter heavy precipitation shafts along the leading edge.

Storms in the North Atlantic are very common at this time of year, but the jet stream which currently has us in its cross hairs is intensifying them and conveying a procession of them in our direction. Storm Gladys next?

Yesterday and last night was worse than at any point on Friday here.

It's still stupid windy.

On my mum and dads street there was a 1 minute mega storm that has stripped every single hip tile of one house and many roof tiles off a few others and resulted in multiple smashed up cars. I had just left 5 minutes before it happened

Today sounds worse for me too in NW Leicestershire. Not sure if the rain makes the wind sound worse.
