I don’t get why some are saying Newcastle for him? Newcastle surely want top players? I think his next move at best would be someone like Villa or Brentford. I can’t see Man U accepting the loss and letting him go though, it’s just a very odd situation. The only winners are us.

Genuinely thought Maguire would leave us a good player and only get better at Utd

I couldn’t have got that more wrong tbf. He’s definitely got worse.
It’s pace… like Vestergaard, he’s just too slow to be a top class centre back

Maguire was good for us in his first season but I actually thought that he was quite mediocre in his second season. Evans was our best CB that season, I am pretty sure that view is undisputed on here.

Obviously, many Leicester fans did point out his weaknesses and were subsequently very happy with the price tag that we got for him. But yet we were called bitter.

I think that he is a bit of a confidence player as it is evident that he has gone backwards at United. I also don’t think he’s that bad either. However, by ‘that bad’ I think is a mediocre PL CB.

In many ways he was setup to fail. I mean, if you take a bang average defender who is very limited in many different departments and slap a record breaking fee and give him the armband at Man United, it is going only going to end one way.

I do feel a bit bad for him to a certain extent. He could have had a fairly solid PL career for quite a mid-table team and probably still had his success with England without the constant abuse.

It is weird because as others have rightly pointed out, he is out of his depth but United surely cannot justify a 50-60m loss on him. It is an incomparable situation, I can’t think of this situation with another player.

But with this in mind, no I wouldn’t take him back. Firstly, his ability doesn’t justify his wages / inflated ego and secondly, I think we need to move forwards and focus on younger defenders with high ceilings.

this summed up my thoughts when he left us, and in all seriousness, i did wish him well given we got a kings ransom in return

i think all limitations aside, the fact he joined a broken club, and what remains a broken club today has made him fail, as much as anything he'd done himself

Said it whilst he was here and said it when he left. Great in the air and good on the ball. But often caught out of position and gets turned too easily. I think he got overhyped by a lot of our fans after he scored against Brighton on his home debut. Don’t get me wrong at times he put some real good performances in for us but he also had his fair share of shockers.

Agree with you Bert. I was with you and said the same. I mentioned whilst he was here that our defense always looked shaky when he was playing for the same reasons you mentioned. But I recall most fans did not see that and overhyped him (though that may have contributed towards his £85m price tag together with the media punters).

At the same time, he did leave us in good grace. He was respectful and I don’t get the hate he sometimes get from our fans. He brought us £85m.

Thinking back, we were really solid back then (when Macguire was not playing). Makes you think how good Evans and Morgan were. Evans in particular. Soyuncu was solid too when he played on the few occasions, but now we know it was because Evans was next to him. What a steal with Evans at £3m!

Yep. He was professional to the naked eye. Was really pushing to leave behind the scenes though.

I know the fan live stream thing isn't everybody's cup of tea, which I understand - it is pretty self indulgent by nature...

But I found this guy a little while back who is absolutely hilarious.  I dare you to watch this starting at 2:51 and not laugh.
