People on benefits and taking their pension will in the main not be in a union. Why would the TUC give a crap about them?

Exactly. But their members will be hit by rising prices also.

Then they will need a raise above minimum wage?

If the minimum wage is increased to 15 pounds an hour, over a 40 hour week that's just over 31k a year. What then happens to everyone's salaries that currently earn above that, do their salaries increase by over 60% too?

Fvcking hope so lol

But surely everything just rises in price to match the wages increase? :dunno:

Lots of small businesses would go under,  people would lose their jobs, pensioners and those on benefits would become even poorer than they are now...

I can't see who would benefit?

One drives the other it's a vicious circle. 15 an hour would close a lot of businesses, hospitality for example. moderation is needed at times like these. I do however believe government need to step in and take some more action against those profiteering out of energy. Freezing the price cap has been mentioned by Starmer, but I'm unsure of the implications of such a move.

Absolutely no chance of that happening until after at least 6 months of Starmer demanding it and the government sneering at him before U turning with similar but much less effective policy.

Emily Maitlis pulling no punches in her speech yesterday. This is a strange time, by any measure

And the best bit was the BBC implicitly backing up what she said by not featuring the bit she said about Gibb's influence at the BBC in their online write up (unless it's been edited since).

If it did happen it would only fuel inflation further as all wages would increase.

Bit of a shitter for all these going on strike, they may as well not bother and wait for the 15 quid an hour minimum wage.

It's incredible isn't it? The issues she was talking about undoubtedly predate his appointment, but surely by far the most newsworthy part of it was what she said about him. It's the most direct accusation of political interference in the BBC I've heard in a long while

Brave woman and spot on with her heckling. Throw the truth back at these people and they don't like it. Hot air and rhetoric aplenty. Actual effective action...? Nah.

Imagine if the mask had slipped and he'd been honest in his response.

"Well Madam, this really isn't our problem. The modern Conservative Party's sole purpose is to serve the needs of capital, which it actually does very well. Where we've f**ked up has rather less to do with ambulances and whether you can pay your gas bill, and more that some people have simply started to notice the above"
