I’ve been looking at a Garmin Forerunner 165 music as a treat to myself, can anyone recommend this watch or suggest better running watch for similar price? Can’t be doing with taking phone on runs now.

I have the 165.

It's the non-music version so I can't comment on that side, but it does everything you'd want it to do really well IMO.

Garmin is great for battery life but I ditched mine and the amazing 7 - 10 day battery life for a Samsung watch which is loads more friendly apps and real life uses and I'll never go back.

The ability to have the same apps on your watch as you do in the phone is simply great. Especially things like Google maps, hiking routes, music, assistant, voice typing and recording.

Downside is that I charge it daily when I shower and once a week charge it for an hour or so.

See i'm the opposite. Used to have a Samsung smart watch and thought it was great but the majority of the stuff that you'd use your phone for I never used on the watch so what's the point. The health/exercise stuff wasn't as good as the two Garmins i've since had so I take the view that if that's more important than go with a Garmin or Coros.

Hi mate, I replied on one of your posts on insta at start of the season. I’ll happily join for about 10k or so. It’s the Leicester half couple of weeks after, so can’t push too far. Annoyingly I can’t make the evening game with the kick off change.

What sort of time you talking?

Hi guys,

I'm actually a Pompey fan and I've undertaken the challenge of running a marathon at every away game this season. So basically I arrive at the stadium super early on match day and just do a couple of loops of the city from there.

So far I've ran marathons around Oxford, West Brom, Southampton and Ipswich. Next up is Leicester.

At Ipswich I had a few Ipswich lads join me for the first half of the marathon and I really enjoyed that, so are there any Leicester fans who would like to join me on the 18th for any of the distance?

And does anyone have any good route tips?

Otherwise if you see a bloke in a Pompey fan doing laps of Leicester town centre that day then it's probably me!

TIA!

Similar to the above, I’ve got a marathon the week after so will be easing off but let

me know what speed you are going at and I’ll probably join you for a half or something.

First ever time running as far as 5k for park run last Saturday as part of a mate's bday, did it in 29 mins 15 seconds. Ankles were killing afterwards as I did it in plimsolls, don't have proper running trainers. I found the whole experience boring, won't be going again.

My friend who's bday it was did it in 15 mins 53 secs, his mate pushed his daughter around the course in a pram and did it in 19 mins 43 secs LOL. I saw them lap me a few times, it was like a blur. Suffice to say they both take running quite seriously.

Anyone have good reviews on insoles? Bought some for £40, from Enetor. Not sure if they have made a difference yet but only tried one interval run in them.

Got my 1k pb today as part of that in 3:17 which I'm pleased about. Just need to run that speed for 5k and I'll be happy 😂

Great shout that, I would be interested in following that thread.

Got to do 20 miles in the morning. It’s getting a bit much doing this sort of run every week and I dread them for days before so it’s probably going to be my last marathon.

I’ve picked up running recently and the idea of a marathon terrifies me. Managed a comfortable 10k in an hour a few weeks back, so could probably push and get it done between 50 and 55 mins, but the thought of having to do 4 times in one go terrifies me. Fair play for getting on with it.

The actual marathon itself, while obviously being a massive challenge, isn’t too bad. It’s been the training, when you know how bad 16 miles is but know you need to do 17 the next week and so on is a struggle.

I think the biggest factor in today feeling horrendous was probably my flu jab on Wednesday and I’ve had a bit of a sore throat so about 6 K in today I was on the verge of asking to be picked up. Mind over matter but ****ing hell, I’d rather not 😂

Also, fair play for doing what you are doing. 10k is a fair old distance and not many people do it.

Yeah, I guess the marathon itself, although mentally challenging, a case of chipping away at the miles. Finishing one must feel a hell of an achievement.

Before I started to run recently, I never really enjoyed running. But this time I’ve got my Garmin watch guiding me and I’m finding it much more manageable than when I’ve just slung my trainers on and gone hell for leather in the past.

Tbf, not sure why I’ve said the marathon is alright because I’ve only done 1 and it was the worst thing I’ve ever done 😂.

Good that you are using that. I’ve got a Garmin and set up the marathon planning to see what it suggested but I’ve never followed it. I don’t think it would have had me running further than 13 miles so far which is a strange one.

I think I’m going to ditch the Garmin coach plan soon, or at least follow it loosely. It refreshes overnight so I’ll be looking forward to a type of run, for it to decide I need to run a base run. It’s been useful to get my head around what kind of runs there are and their benefits though.

3 weeks out from Leicester Half and my hip has gone.

Felt it after Parkrun last week but managed to run my normal morning 5ks this week and it held up although not entirely comfortable. Skipped parkrun yesterday and today's long run should have been 16k, managed 12 but it was pretty much agony after 10 and I probably should have just stopped.

Pain is in hip and top of my groin so I dont know what part of my body is actually injured, but having had to pull out last year through injury I can't face doing it again this year when until this point I've felt probably the fittest I have since my late teens/early 20s.

I'll take this week off (which obviously isn't ideal prep) in the hope of a miracle, but looks like ill be running the half dosed up on ibuprofen and pretty much crawling around. Devastated.

Just done a 24km run with my brother building up for next week's Peterborough half marathon. At his pace though so nothing quick.

Gonna taper the running down now and definitely won't run Thurs Fri or Sat before the event.

Gonna be trying to hold on to the 90 mins Pacers hand all the way but we'll see 🤣

Hmmmm body doesn't feel that great at the minute. Been fighting an illness for a few weeks that just won't budge or whether i've just got some low level fatigue that I get from the fun that is ulcerative colitis. Knees feel a bit inflamed too.

Could do with feeling a bit more livelier ahead of Leicester Half and then a few weeks after got one in Chesterfield.

Sounds like we are all falling to bits.

Stupidly tried to run 10k uphill on the treadmill earlier but after my long run on Friday my left knee is really sore.

Is 3 weeks too long to taper for a marathon if the max I’ve done is 20 miles?
