I don’t have much in the way of running gear yet, so I’ll be out in my shorts, T-shirt and a thin waterproof regatta jacket in hope of it taking the edge off the wind.

I’m really not feeling it.

Feel like that quite often but always OK after I have got the first mile under my belt.

I still always wear shorts but struggle with the balance on upper half of me when it’s this weather.

First time in a long time but I opened the door at 6am as I normally do but couldn’t do it because of the weather. Grim.

hats off to anyone who can wake up and just go for a run in the pitch black winter months. After work having fuelled all day for me every time

Did my first 5k after a 2 week holiday, bit of a struggle but was ok.

Loads of off topic posts in this thread.

Reckon a few need banning, banging on about half this and extreme that.

I much prefer first thing too, or in the morning at least.

I need to try and prepare how I'm going to fit this 19 week training plan in over the winter months. The midweek runs I can probably do at lunch as I work from home and be the precious few that are light. The Sat & Sun big distances is going to have to be 6am starts and be home by 9ish which will be rough as anything.

I took out a cheapish gym membership to get the winter training in.

PureGym where it's 24/7 worked for me, did some crazy late night/early morning stuff.

In Italy rather than Parkrun (there's a handful), there is a bit more casual thing of relaxed run clubs meeting on weekend mornings. I did one in Turin which was great.

Signed up to one in Bari this Sunday, the bloke running it is ****ing delighted. Been asking me everything ! Nice coastal run at about 10 degrees yes please!

Sounds class pal. Spend the entire run discussing Cassano and David Platt - not their former player but the scrote from Coronation Street. Gail's lad.

Reluctantly out at 5am this morning, -2 so all wrapped up. Psyched myself up.

400 yards down the road my water bottle leaked all over my gloves, couldnt get them dry the whole time. Hands were like two frozen clubs by the end, trying to untie my shoes was interesting.

Went out at 5am yesterday and will be the same again tomorrow. I probably enjoy it more this time of year than I do in the summer.

do you eat anything before you run? this is why i can't do it when i wake up, i need a big meal then at least 2 hours for it to digest

Depending on what I’m doing.
if it’s something like an easy pace 3-5 miles I probably won’t bother. I tend to eat a little extra the night before or even just a banana or handful of nuts/granola.
Anything longer and I’d have porridge or similar but I only really let it sit for half an hour or so.
Do you take anything out with you on the runs?

only long runs i will take gels, I might try doing easy run with no food, maybe an espresso 15 mins before.

I’ve done both not eating and out of the door as well as a bit of porridge and a coffee half an hour before.

As above, if it was a short one I wouldn’t be too worried. If it’s not, definitely make sure you’ve got some food down you.

As far as digesting it, I think as long as you keep it consistent and it’s not a vindaloo your body will adapt to what you do, if you don’t then take a spare pair of socks.

Before any morning run, events included as they're always 9/10am...I eat barely anything. At most a banana and a protein porridge pot with tea/coffee. Stomach is a bit dodgy at the best of times to have more at that time 🤣

If i drank 2 coffees before a run I'd be walking home embarrassed and soiled

I run a consistent schedule fortunately. Coffee at 5 run at 6 or 6:30.

Early morning bit of jam on toast for me and out the door

Two teaspoons of honey straight down the gregory will do the trick an'all.
