I was stunned at St James's on Saturday,  seeing him come out of the tunnel,  and knew all hope was lost, although I didn't expect it be out of reach that quickly. 

 

We'd have lost that game with a prime Kasper in goal because we were poor all over the pitch for 90 minutes bit some of those players have a bit of credit in the bank, although not much.

I have no wish to disagree with anyone who thinks ward is shit as im not really in a position to comment as i havent seen enough of him to pass comment.

 

What i can say is that ANYONE who thinks the 2nd and 3rd goals we conceded on Saturday were any fault of Danny Ward and not the Sunday League Pub standard defending in front of him is absolutely deluded...!

 

I dont think it would have mattered who we had in goal for the 2nd half on Saturday.....it was the defending that cost us and NOT the goalkeeper.

 

We could/should easily have conceded 4 against both West Ham and Brighton if it wasn't for their players not having a clue where the goal was (or Harmensen being the outstanding GK that he is!) so while WARD may not be the answer to our problems....most of our problems will still definitely exist with or without Ward!

The thing is knowing all the problems we have the idea of throwing another problem that's as bad as the worst of them into the mix is sickening. 

 

We all know even if the unbelievable happens and our defence/midfield have a good game and limit them to only two opportunities (lol) rather than 30 then we've got a massive chance of going down by two regardless of the quality of the chances.

It’s no coincidence that the soon as Ward is subbed on, our defence crumbles.

 

As poor as our defence is, it can’t help knowing you’ve got Ward behind you and Choudhury in front of you.

Thats a fair point....but as i said, West Ham and Brighton could/should easily have scored 4 or more against us and the reason they didn't was NOT because of our own great defending.....it was more to do with their own dreadful finishing in front of goal!!

 

 On Saturday, it was the same defenders just different opposition......and Newcastle didnt make the same mistakes that WHU and BHA did!

 

I have NO issue with anyone who wants to blame Ward.....but if you think Ward is the problem and that by fixing that we'll be OK then i dont think it will be long before you're looking for someone else to blame.....thats all im saying!

Ward might not instill anybody with confidence, and with good reason, but that can't be used as an excuse for other players to not do their job.  To point fingers at Ward every time the ball hits the back of the net is disingenuous at best.  When players are free to take their time to pick players out who are then unmarked for free efforts on goal, then the goalkeeper isn't to blame, nor is any perceived fear that he might not do his job.  If the defence do what they're supposed to and limit the opposition to speculative efforts straight down Wards throat, and they still score, then by all means, string him up.

If you haven't seen enough of him to pass comment, then you've had a lucky escape. 

I did say in my post, that we were poor all over the pitch and would have lost whatever.

I'm not deluded enough to expect our goalkeeper to do basic things to a reasonable level.

We shifted Kasper out to save on wages,  then allowed this clown to jump out of the way of shots and to leave huge gaps for strikers to easily score.

Had Kasper stayed, we'd have stayed up imo

 

He's probably the worst keeper I've seen in my years ( since the late 70's) because he's basically shit at every aspect of goalkeeping.

 

No excuse for the dreadful defence on Saturday but he certainly makes all around him , worse than they already are

The reason we look so poor defensively doesn't necessarily mean that has come directly from Ward's mistakes.  His presence alone makes mistakes more likely because a bag of flour could command the box better than he does.

 

He was a huge reason for the debacle of 22/23.

Everyone is well aware our problems run deeper than Ward. However if we're going to play no defence in front of the Keeper, then I'd rather have someone capable of keeping the ball out of the net playing.

I hear exactly what you're saying and i dont disagree with you at all BUT.....if we're prepared to excuse our defence for being s**t, then why is everyone getting so hung up about our keeper being s**t as well...?? :D

 

Bit like NOT blaming Prince Andrew for being a NONCE just because there are even bigger Nonces out there...! 

 

(PS I dont like to worry you BUT.......im not sure how much longer Hermansen is going to be with us as that boy is Quality?    What then...?!? :cry:)
