G'won Suze!

Needs emphasising actually - didn't just vote against it, but was the only one who did, and who openly spoke out against it when even representatives of smaller, supposedly 'salt-of-the-earth' clubs voted in favour. She deserves it for that alone.

 :schmike:

Weren't they games that were not originally scheduled to be on tv anyway? As in, nothing was taken away from the existing tv schedule and added to that new ppv.

That's missing the point. The games were going to have no one watching them, due to no one being in the stands. The Premier League were charging people £15 a match when they were home, scared, and not knowing if they were going to have a job when it all ended. It was a crass money grab, and the decision was immediately reviled by almost all other stakeholders. In the end, it didn't even make any money, since everyone just illegally streamed the games.

So I haven't missed the point at all then.

Well, it was considered a public relations disaster and made the Premier League no money, and they later backpedaled on the whole deal, so, in that explaining that "nothing was taken away from the existing tv schedule and added to that new ppv", nope you explained that pretty well. In seemingly not understanding that it was an awful decision, completely not in touch with what was going on in the country, and a public relations disaster for the Premier League (bar one team -- ours), yeah, missed the point entirely.

So rich people should never be honoured?

The honour reflects well on Leicester City. There are also awards to "ordinary" people from different walks of life. Better than some Tory benefactor getting a knighthood.

What for? What has she done then?

She got £80M for Maguire when she personally squeezed their Chief Exec by the balls.

Never get this argument. What does her level of pay have to do with receiving an honour? Like she can't excel at her job because it's well-paid. Are we really saying only those on minimum wage or doing voluntary work should be honoured? There were something like 120 people on the list all from various sectors - business, charity, sport etc. Some would have been top earners, others JAMs. By that argument, we better not give the top earners in the Premier League golden boots, players of the season or any other gongs. After all, it's what they're paid for. Meanwhile Billy Sharp at Sheff Utd gets no recogniton....the madness

So you miss the part where every time these are announced there are hundreds of ordinary hard working people who are honoured. I bet if you pull up the full list you've never heard of most of them.

I don't know how you've come to the conclusion that I didn't understand that it was an awful decision, which of course it was. I hadn't offered my opinion in my previous post.

I hope you continue to enjoy your bank holiday celebrations :)

Agreed. Mind you I'd like to know what is the point of a so-called Hours system in the first place. I mean what is its function what does it do, does anyone care ? As a free man I would not dream of calling anyone sir  ( Jimmy Savile etc  ) or any of the other ridiculous outdate titles. The house of so-called lords for instance is the epitome of everything that is wrong in a society that purports to be  democratic. Sorry Susan but your establishment award means nothing to me and I suspect means nothing to the vast majority in the country.

Just because you never made the most of your life, you shouldn't disparage those that have. A post founded in absolute jealousy towards those that have made a better effort and achieved more. I for one salute her and all her achievements, I'll have a beer to celebrate whilst you wallow in self pity 👍🏻

oh woe is me for seeing the unbelievable crassness of this award , does the government now have to give the same award for every other person who holds a position equivalent to susans in the premier league, and for all you know i may have worked shifts in a very demanding job all my life ,

Those honours are only given to those with power and influence to keep them onside. Really smart form of soft power bought by the monarchy.

"Only given to those with power and influence", what bollocks!! What about those teenagers who had been fundraising and all the other unsung heroes that do good in society.

Presumably, if you were on the list you would have said, no thanks?
