Jimothy Posted 2 June 2022 Posted 2 June 2022 Seeing this got me thinking, after his 40th and final run, and all his work in for charity and the community, isn't it time the Birch's MBE was upgraded, possibly to Sir Birch. People have been knighted for less. I think someone who knows him personally has to put him forward, maybe it could be suggested to the club? I'm nor sure who be the right person to contact though. 1
adam Posted 2 June 2022 Posted 2 June 2022 Fair play but this honours system should be scrapped. Load of shite. Moeen Ali and James Milner also have one 😆
volpeazzurro Posted 2 June 2022 Posted 2 June 2022 Congratulations to her, a vital cog at Leicester City.
filbertway Posted 2 June 2022 Posted 2 June 2022 Congratulations @Chocolate Teapot I'm convinced you're SW or a friend of In all seriousness though, congrats to her, been a part of the club as it has been showing continuous improvement.
Popular Post davieG Posted 2 June 2022 Popular Post Posted 2 June 2022 https://www.leicestermercury.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/leicester-city-queen-birthday-honour-7157694 Leicester City chief 'humbled' after being named in Queen's Jubilee Birthday Honours The City CEO is also a Deputy Lieutenant of Leicestershire and an Honorary Doctor of Laws at the University of Leicester for their services to the community and contribution to the prosperity and reputation of the city ByMatt Abbott 07:49, 2 JUN 2022 SPORT The honour is in recognition of their services to football, the economy in the East Midlands and the wider community in Leicester. Whelan has been on City's board of directors since 2010 - the same year King Power completed their takeover of the club - and assumed the position of CEO just one year later. During that time, Leicester have enjoyed unprecedented success in lifting the Premier League title and FA Cup for the first time in their history on the back of promotion from the Championship as champions at the end of the 2013/14 season. This season a ninth consecutive season in the top flight was secured with ease - courtesy of an eighth-place finish - as well as reaching a first European semi-final in the inaugural Europa Conference League. I’ve been fortunate to work with some remarkable people in the last 12 years - club personnel, city stakeholders and community representatives - all of whom are so passionate about Leicester, Leicestershire and its people. “Leicester City remains enormously ambitious about its role in supporting Leicestershire’s future development, from a sporting, social and economic perspective. I’m personally very proud of the progress we have made together to date and excited about our onward journey.” The club's chairman Aiyawatt Srivaddhanaprabha also offered their congratulations. " This is a most deserved honour for Susan - someone who has worked so hard and with such humility to help our Club, its supporters and communities realise our dreams," Top said. “Leicester has been fortunate to experience some truly wonderful moments in the last 12 years, but there have also been challenges to overcome. Susan has played a big role in using those circumstances to unite people, making sure we learn from the experiences and always moving the club forward. “Everyone at the club is extremely proud of her achievements and I offer my personal congratulations on such a prestigious honour.” https://www.leicestermercury.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/leicester-city-susan-whelan-ceo-6891135 'More than football' - Susan Whelan opens up on Leicester City role in rare interview Leicester City CEO Susan Whelan has spoken about running the club and what it means to the community in a rare media interview with the Irish Times ByLuke PawleyMidlands Football Writer 08:45, 1 APR 2022 Whelan has been in the CEO role since King Power bought Leicester City from Milan Mandaric in 2010. During that time, she has overseen promotion from the Championship, the great escape, the Premier League miracle, FA Cup glory and three seasons of European football. It is refreshing to hear that the club recognise what they mean to the community of Leicester and Leicestershire more widely, with Whelan also explaining the hardest aspect of running a football club. “Of course I love it," Whelan told the Irish Times. "The buzz of a match day is very important. Being able to do the charity side of things, the business, the retail, the hospitality, it’s quite all-encompassing and it’s really great fun. “It’s how much it means to so many people. It’s so important to remember that. It is for the community and for the fans and that is something that is really important. The visibility of a football club is very different to other businesses from that point of view. “I think the hardest bit is the fact that there is so much that is outside your control. You have all of the infrastructure in place for success and all of the things that should guarantee success, but because it is sport there is no guarantee of the outcome. I suppose that’s what makes it exciting, but in other businesses you have a lot more levers you can pull to influence what the outcome is. When it’s sport it’s not quite as easy. "We built it up slowly because we never wanted to be subject to terrible crises if there was a change in our league position. People depend on us for their mortgages, for their livelihoods, for all of those things.” There is a spirit at Leicester City, among staff and players alike, that is different to what you hear of many other clubs. There is a family feel, a community spirit and a togetherness which makes the club unique in so many ways. Whelan said: "During the pandemic we didn’t let any of the staff go, we didn’t furlough them, we kept them together, we got them doing outreach stuff into the community to keep them occupied and doing something beneficial. “I always say to my own team that we have to be about more than football. You can’t win every single weekend and you have to represent something that is bigger than a single result or set of results. We’re very fortunate that we can make – it sounds very cliched – a positive difference to people’s lives sometimes. You hear someone is unwell and you can invite them down to the training ground.” 5

The_77 Posted 2 June 2022 Posted 2 June 2022 A trailblazer in sport and business. It’s Vichai’s and Top’s money at the end of the day but let’s not pretend that Susan doesn’t play a part in the club’s investments in the community.
Tielemans63 Posted 2 June 2022 Posted 2 June 2022 Richly deserved. Well done Susan. Done an incredible job at the club.
