Raków Częstochowa (Ra-koof Chen-sto-ho-vah) have become the Polish Champions for the first time in their history. They lost 1-0 today, but Legia Warsaw also lost, meaning that they can no longer catch Raków.

Raków are probably the closest thing to the "Polish Leicester" that there can be. They were a top flight side in the 90s, but plummeted through the leagues.

 

When current coach Marek Papszun took charge in 2016, they were in the third tier. Within three-and-a-half seasons they were back in the top flight. They won their first Polish Cup in 2021, and retained it in 2022. Won the Supercup in both those years too. Finished second in the league last season, and came within a whisker of qualifying for the Conference League - eliminated by a 122nd minute goal by Slavia Prague. 

 

They've gone one better this term. Although they lost the Polish Cup final in midweek, they'll now have a chance of reaching the Champions League. But they'll do so without their coach Papszun. He's out of contract, and won't be renewing. He'll be replaced by his assistant in the summer.
