Popular Post Guest Posted 10 December 2025 Popular Post Posted 10 December 2025 I've never really been sure how beneficial it can actually be to arrange friendlies against teams because they're geographically close to the ones you've got in the groups. Say we were playing one against Nigeria - what would that actually tell us about what it's going to be like to play against Ghana? They've got a different manager and a completely different set of players. Are we more likely to beat Panama if we play a friendly against Honduras instead of Japan? It's not like there's a really strictly defined Central American or West African way of playing football and if you think about a team doing the reverse and e.g. trying to get a feel for playing against England by arranging a friendly against Scotland, I don't know that it would make much sense. If we were playing away then I could see the logic in picking geographically to try and recreate what the conditions will be like, but they're both at home. A couple of decent teams to actually give us a test rather than two minnows we wouldn't really learn anything from strolling past makes sense to me. 8

You make a very fair point to be fair, I'd argue we don't really need to prepare for Panama anyway And Ghana, I'm just guessing here but I imagine most are plying their trade in Europe anyway. 1

Personally I think they're good choices, I'd just have played one away from Wembley.

My pal is registering an interest for us today, just to see what we're looking at to price it up. Not sure it's going to be doable 2 nights in Boston coming up close to £500 cheapest on booking.com for England's game v Ghana.

Yeah, you won’t get cheaper than that on there at the minute but Air B n B you might, could also stay outside of Boston and travel in.

Can't see many Mexicans paying that. Hopefully empty stadiums, or at least quiet ones full of the prawn sandwich brigade. Edit: cheapest tickets are about £130, depending on game. The most expensive tier of tickets for the Croatia game are over £500, which I guess is what I saw reported. There's quite a detailed report here... https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/articles/c80x38e04yro If England were to get through to the final (I know, I know) and you went to every game, it would cost over £5000, if you only bought the cheapest ticket. Yep, complete shambles all round. I’ll probably be paying more for every group game than I did for 5 tickets, including the semi and final, in Germany.
