Surely if he was going to leave he should have done straight after relegation. Seems odd to do it now. Can't blame him though, I think he will make a top manager.

Fair play to him for that. I like Rooney and he seems a genuine good guy. And he was a legend for England. I always thought he'd struggle at management above league 2 until he got the experience. Derby was beyond his level of experience.

He'll probably end up at Everton when Frank gets the boot. Would take him over Southgate at England though (I'd take most people over Southgate in all honesty)

Well, in in first job to lead a team in crisis and still win games and despite being deducted 24 points came quite close to staying up, having absolutely no budget and losing players all the time, I'd say he's done ok so far. What more could he have done? I think given the chance at championship level or eventually premier League he will become a very good coach.

Derby still had some good extremely experienced Championship players though. And it really shouldn’t be hard to create a seige mentality in a situation like that 

 

It reminds me of when Avram Grant was Portsmouth manager and they were bankrupt and bottom of the league but he was still getting praised for not sitting on 0 points. Then when he went to West Ham, a job he got off the back of that Portsmouth job, he was horrific and relegated them.

 

It’s a win win situation for a manager when you go into a bankrupt team. All you have to do is not lose every game and people praise you for being competitive and no one would blame you even if you had 0 points, everyone would just talk about the circumstances.

 

I’m with those who are baffled wt the praise Rooney has got. Not saying he’s going to be an awful manager, but people are massively overpraising him for not really doing anything. And there’s no way you can read into him being a good PL manager in the future based on it. Plenty of managers have done far more in the lower leagues and not made the step up.

 

Plenty have managers have done better for keeping bankrupt teams up as well fwiw. We got promoted while bankrupt  under Micky Adams as did Bury a couple of seasons back. Paul Ince has got nowhere near the praise as Rooney for going in and keeping Reading up while strapped for cash and having a points deduction either.

As much as I like being superior to Derby, and their troubles are a tad funny, I wouldn't like to see any club in such trouble, even Derby. 

 

At the end of the day, we all know what football means to people and its always the fans that suffer.

 

Hopefully they get everything back on track (but not too much)
