Hey All,

Im just curious who everyone thinks would be next in line for captain if we were to lose Kasper and Youri this summer.

Do we think Vardy will be the natural option? He obviously leads by example but im not sure hes the motivator in communication. Albrighton seems like hed be a great captain but with limited minutes it might not be the right choice again.

Personally my guess would be Johnny Evans would be given it, but again as its time limited is this the best call?

Think what you want of the guy but I wouldnt be opposed to Madderz being the next in line. He was part of the leadership group... a hugely popular figure in the team and I think someone who would flourish with the responsibility.

He had a tough few years, made some bad calls but he's grown imo. I think youd see a similar raising of the game as you got with Grealish. Someone who also made a lot of bad decisions but you cant fault how he led villa.  You never know, the armband could convince him to sign a new deal. Im sure hes always dreamed of being the player to lift a trophy

It's a pointless discussion as Kasper isn't going anywhere.

Either way, Evans is the vice-captain, so it would be him, with Vardy taking Evans' then vacated role.

hmm are you certain about that? If an offer comes, Kasper might want it and the club might look at the wages saved and think its the right time.

Plus... we need something to talk about

Evans, Vardy, and one day in the not too distant future, KDH imo

100% should be KDH one day but still too soon.

Think it would be cheaper to keep Kasper for a year than let him go and spend £20m+ transfer fee & further wages, agent fees etc. on his replacement.

Not if the replacement is already at the club

I don't think Iverson nor Ward will replace him, to be honest. I don't think either are good enough, but they're still decent keepers in their own right. Would just be a big drop off from Kasper. I think Stolarczyk looks like the one with the highest ceiling, but he'll need a few loan moves yet before we can see if that proves to be the case.

Ive been chatting to some preston fans and they think he is sensational. The championship isnt a huge step in quality these days tbh. Similar to KDH he was motm most games... poty etc, I think he definitely has a good shot.

Id be willing to try him for a year (especially as we have ward if he isnt as good as hoped)

If it means we can be more flexible in the market im not against it.

He's got to leave one day soon anyway

I expect Kasper will stay this season and leave next summer, but even so, in both scenarios I think the next captain would probably be Evans

After Evans I would probably say either of KDH or Maddison

Evans but KDH as vice.

Even if he stays at the club longer than Schmeichel, I can't see Vardy being captain. He's a leader, no doubt, but the captaincy is slightly different I feel.

Evans seems a natural choice for the immediate future. KDH will eventually take that mantle, but feel he needs another season to focus on his own development first.

Maddison could be an interesting left-field choice. He's matured a lot since coming here and then becoming a dad, and seems the kind of player who has the charisma and football intelligence needed to set an example and lead from the front.

I think the importance of captaincy is hugely overstated and it'd go to either Evans as the current VC or Vardy as the next in line to Schmeichel in terms of longevity at the club

Potentially but you could say the same about having team leads in any work place. If youve got a good one who pushes you to do well it does make an impact though and the same for when you have a bad one.

Its a big factor in the squad harmony and setting standards... not necessarily for suddenly changing performances on the pitch but definitely effecting the happiness of the day to day lives of the squad. The ideal captain just bridges the gap between the manager and the players which is why I dont see vardy being that guy.

KDH is much more of a natural leader than most. His commitment on and off the pitch is in the top 1%.
