We spend nearly 100% of revenue on wages. The issue has been the wages and it's been obvious for years that this would be a problem.

Next year, we will lose up to 10 players as their contracts expire, that will largely solve our wage issues, unless they're replaced/renewed on similar wages.

The wages will be fine but I'm not confident we'll nail 7 signings with probably £60m to play around with.

We were more consistent when they were younger though? The older the squad or certainly main core of 11-15 players have gotten, the more Brendan has reminded us we're a young squad.

We have the 3rd oldest squad someone just said? 😂😂😂😂

That age average will drop when Kasper leaves, and includes Vesty, Bertrand and Perez.

The point being that they are still young players. What were Mane, Salah, Henderson, Firmino, Van Dijk, Matip all performing like at 25 and under?

So yeah, they're becoming more experienced and that's true, but they've still got a long way to go. We're seeing more and more players these days go on to play into their mid-30s due to improving sports science and conditioning - we may not see the best of most of these lads until they're 28/29 years old.

You can't really think a lot of these are at the best that they will ever be, or don't have improving to do further in their careers?

What on earth has that final bit got to do with it?

Found it curious how he mentioned around the 30 minute mark when asked about trimming the squad down, he says "you always think that players want to go and play" and that the challenge is that the club is a "nice place to be."

IMO pretty thinly-veiled frustration confirming what we all know: that we've got a bunch of dossers on the books that we can't shift because they're happy to soak up the substantial dollar whilst barely featuring.

Is a 24 year old that's made 250 career apps inexperienced because they might peak at 29? No.

What do you mean? How has it not got anything to do with it?

The point about when a player reaches no more new levels of progression is not the direct argument to prove we still have a young squad. Even if it were, why would you be aiming to get to the point where the squad had no more improving to do? It's downhill from there on in. Peak consistency isn't reached when there's no more improving to do is it?

Rodgers has talked at length about the need to recruit to freshen up the squad, as its only natural players stagnate under the same regime after a while, in that regard he can clearly see he got a lot of success out of his squad in the first 2.5 years and then it's showing signs of vulnerability. That's not because he's still got a young squad. As has been pointed out that is conveniently being ignored, we currently have the 3rd oldest squad and even if we instead look at the starting XI in recent years, it's largely remained unchanged and these players have grown significantly in experience and ability and yet the longer time goes on there signs we are regressing.

Rodgers explanations are contradictory to our problems.

I just wonder to what extent King Power's involvement in horse racing is also reducing funds.  They have a huge number of horses now, very few of which have so far been successful.

The operation must be losing resources on this project hand over fist, given how expensive the pursuit is.

People have to remember when Rodgers does an interview like this which is pre-planned and with a fairly big outlet into terms of Leicester fans, I think you have to bear in mind that there is sometimes a motive, not just for him but the club .

It's equally about lowering expectations rather than a supposed financial malaise.

Zero, absolutely nothing to do with it whatsoever.

Castagne started right midfield against Sevilla didn’t he?

Good point. I'm going senile. :D

But the right midfield vacancy still remains, due to Ricardo's absence, as Castagne will now presumably play at full back, unless we start Thomas regularly at left back and play Justin on the right?

Hopefully we promote a few youth products to help save money :fc:

I don't agree we're regressing - improvement isn't linear, and I don't agree that we don't have a young squad when you look at that starting 11 and that there are 5 players significantly dragging that average up in Albrighton, Bertrand, Vardy, Schmeichel and Evans, two of which will hardly feature this year and one who is on his way out.

Probably best just to leave it there as we're not going to agree - I just see it as another unjustified stick to beat the manager with to be honest.

Is the starting XI younger and more inexperienced after 2021/22 than when he first got here?

Said in another thread that it was a really good podcast and Owynn did very well - enjoyed the nerdy section on new tactics!

The set piece coach insight is reassuring and frustrating in equal measure.

The club are being sensible in trying to be sustainable. Remember Arsenal and Spurs' spending fell after significant infrastructure spending. In fact, Spurs didn't buy players for a two or three windows running. And with the pandemic and its impact on commercial revenues and King Power, allied with our high wage structure, it's no major surprise.

Frustrating in the short-term but shows a responsible approach from the club hierarchy.

Where has this average age of the squad come from? We've generally been pretty low to average in terms of age. First time has of course been bumped up by Vardy, Kasper, Evans in particular.

Even so, Rodgers can't talk about inexperience. Loads of this guys are 24-26 now with tonnes of our experience so whilst we don't have an ageing squad, it's certainly no longer the youngsters he likes to make out it is.

All in, that interview was typical rubbish (excluding the tactics bit). He's only 'honest' when that it involves lowering expectations below the level they should be at, as his honesty, isn't really the truth. That bit about only reading books that will better his and his family's life :S:frusty:. Thought he was no longer meant to be David Brent?

Interview came across as competent which was refreshing at least.

I thought it was interesting how he mention he felt he need 3 new players for the starting 11.

I assume that would be RW, CM, CB.

Best content BBC radio Leicester has produced in a long time.

Came across as a very open and honest conversation.

Why that matter?

Yes indeed we're trying to balance our financial status but I'm quite sure other teams that keep spending are in a worse position and nobody mentions it. Everton (the most obvious one), Spurs (huge debt especially due to the stadium), Villa and I won't even mention top teams where the breach of FFP (even the "updated" one) is bizarre.

What's going on also with the company's revenue from teams like Union St Gilloise. Do we have any profits as King Power from the stadium there?

Nothing, and good on people for doing that as we all should. But did you listen to how it was said? As though you could never read anything for enjoyment and that it has to benefit your growth as a person in some way. What a bizarre and miserable take on life. I have consumed content with the view to bettering myself, which in turn may have had a knock-on effect on my family (the tiniest one). But i have never read a book/watched a documentary etc. so that it benefits my family. It's actually incredibly arrogant to assume that your expansion of knowledge, in a very supeficiial context, would enrich the quality of somebody else's life.

He talked about watching loads of football and wanting to constantly develop which is great and want you hope to hear from a manager (if they aren't so stubborn to embrace those ideas).
