Think we're  in the shit .If it was another  club youd say they're  gonna have a tough season and be lucky to stay up .

Because we have lost a keeper who was part of a defence that let in 20 odd goals from set pieces and had the 7th worse defensive record in the league?

Strong until we get an injury then it's as weak as a pint of Carling( see last year for evidence ) We DO need at least a couple of players to go straight into the side, especially a winger. After all, everyone seems quick to rubbish the so-called deadwood in the side, so who do we turn to when not if we get injuries? You are only a strong side when you have a strong backup and again last season showed we havent.

People love to slag off our squad players but we still managed 8th with loads of them having to play.

Take 5 or 6 first-teamers out of the likes of West Ham, Wolves and Palace and see how they fair.

That is true you would

But then, most fans of other clubs take a little glee from such predictions.

We must have a good start… win on Sunday and all this goes away for a while.

Lose… and it’ll be ten-fold

Lose Sunday and this forum will go into overdrive.. is the ‘safehouse’ still open?

To answer the thread topic. Yes.

Hence Kasper left. He knew.

He left because the club would not offer him a new contract on anything like the salary of his existing contract. The club did not fight for him to stay, so he took a rational career decision to end his playing days on the south of France. Good luck to him. This is not evidence of a club in decline, though - it is evidence of a club looking forwards.

If you're comparing BR's first full season and his second FA Cup winning season to last season then simplistically put we are definitely in decline! It's all relative though. Finishing 8th last season was generally very flattering considering how we played for the lion's share of the season in the league (despite the major injuries to key players, etc) and it was a minor miracle. It also showed how poor the overall quality of the league was last season! While I feel a semi final appearance in the Europa Conference competition was just papering over the cracks of failure where it mattered re our failure to qualify beyond the easy group stages of the Europa League - and that all the teams that were in that Europa Conference competition were also below par as a consequence and were experiencing a similar negative thing as we were,  in so far as their missing out on progression in the Europa League proper was concerned. Couple that with the disappointment of blowing top four finishes on the final day of two consecutive seasons - top four finishes that would have meant we were in a completely different position to what we are now as a club, financially and maybe attracting better players here (beyond squad filler like Bertrand and of course his Soton teammate Vestergaard), then overall it does appear we are a club in decline for now, even if a slow one. I'd of course like to be proved wrong this coming season but a good start is imperative......

You have to be on the up to be on a decline! The thing i dont like is what Rodgers said after the Forrest debacle......now a couple of days ago says he didn't know about our financial state.....he should do being the manager who signed alot of the players we are trying to shift!

I think this is the end of an era with Kasper and soon Vardy getting towards the end of their careers and of course we have missed out completely on European football this year.

There has been no suggestion that the owners have lost ambition and hopefully an extended East Stand if it goes ahead will generate a lot more revenue and give everyone a lift in the medium term

In the short term it might be a bit tricky if we cannot bring anyone in this window. So I think this is a period of readjustment not decline.

I'm not panicking, but I do think we need to trim the squad even if this means getting a lot less money for fringe players than we might want. Do not want to see playmakers such as Madders and Barnes leaving at any price, or Chelsea seeing us as an easy target for talent.

I swear most people on foxestalk are on some kind of drugs.

I think that probably we are in decline, or possibly transition, but better to put it that we will revert to a more sustainable level.

Whatever happens, we can be satisfied that we have made this golden period pay.  We made hay while the sun shined as they say and we have a Premier League title, a Charity Shield and FA Cup in the bank.

Football is cyclical and how many other clubs have golden periods but end up eith nothing to show for it?

in transition not decline. 11 players out of contract next summer, with a few more probably leaving soon.

Whatever happens it's crucial we get our recruitment right over the next year or so..

Remembering under Peter Taylor we lost our first game and at home to Bolton Five Nil.  No real coming back from that.

We have to finish above Forest.

They've had to buy an entire new team for less than Wesley Fofana is worth.

If we're worried about Forest, it's going to be a very long season.

The difference is they have all signed new players and we have not.

Not one injury, it’s more like when we have 4 or 5 out when we encounter issues.

Agreed as would any other club at our level. but it's the potential loss of our best players to the top 6 vultures I fear.

Who could be as good as Vestergaard last season.

Everton have spent 0.5b on new players over the last 5 seasons how's that gone?
