Our issue isnt what we are paying squad players. Its that those squad players are not contributing to the team in ways we would want.

We can sit there and criticise the guy who has negotiated/signed off on the salary but quite simply it could be the market rate. Take Vestegaard, we wanted an experience PL defender to come and sit on the bench (at best) once all our first team players were back (Evans, Fofana). That would take some persuasion, usually money. The problem is Vestegaard is useless. He has contributed nothing and now wants to sit on his salary and fight for a place that is not there.

The problem here is not one person, one department to blame - its not that simple. Focus on salary alone will not fix the problem we are currently in.

I actually think our inability to keep players fit is the biggest issue here.

Our model previously was a small squad with young players with an emphasis on keeping them fit - there were a number of articles at the time based on this and Rodgers even said he'd like to have a small squad.

In the last two seasons we've added a number of senior pros and moved away from the younger up and coming model.

The fact we've been unable to keep our players fit is a bigger issue than just keeping our best 11 on the pitch.

And yes I do blame Rodgers for that as he brought in his own doc and physio and has an appalling injury record everywhere he's been.

Agreed and I guess I meant that in aiming for the champions league with our injury record we have felt that we need to have a bigger squad for this reason.

I would love that but it today premier league I can’t really see that happening.

Yeh could be too soon for players like Alves and possibly Braybrooke.

But it makes sense to promote Maswanhise when we have no back up left winger and also Brunt, although we might have to demote someone to the u21s to free up a squad place for him I think?

There's no way Perez is on 80 bags a week

We signed him from another Premier League of course he'll be on daft money. He signed for them in 2014 and then extended in 2016. He wouldn't have joined in a £30m deal for a £10k a week pay rise

I am a big believer in promoting from within. KDH is the perfect example. He has had to be patient but is now a PL quality player with a considerable value. However even these players like him and Barnes will eventually command a high salary , there is no way to escape it.

Instead of signing squad fillers like Vestergaard and Bertrand on big wages, we should promote some youngsters.

Feels like such an obvious solution, especially when we have so many good talents in the academy. Maswanhise should be in the first team as back up for Barnes.

Next summers rebuild:

Wormleighton to replace Ricardo

Brunt to replace Vestergaard

Braybrooke to replace Tielemans

Alves to replace Perez

Hopefully those youngsters will shine in The Championship.

We still pay less than the "big six" even Spurs. Every year we are supposed to aspire to their status. Money totally rules the game and if we don't pay , we will not have the quality of players to compete. Financing this level of pay with a small stadium and lack of commercial clout is an extraordinarily difficult task.

That's why it's inevitable that those 6 clubs will break away and be part of a European Super league!

Just a matter of time.

I'm not buying that.  FA Cup winners, European competition and two consecutive top 5 finishes should be enough to lure players away from Southampton, Newcastle (2018), Salzburg etc without having to offer ridiculous wages.

Rudkin needs to be held to account here.

Wouldn’t mind if we were buying those clubs best players but weren’t even that!

What has happened to the wage structure at LCFC. It seems we are paying well beyond what they are worth, a few years ago we seemed to have a strict wage plan. I have no problem with top players getting top wages.

Vestergaard 70k a week

Parson Daka 89k w a week

Ryan Bertrand 60k a week

Dennis Praet 77k a week

Soumare 85k a week

Ayoze perez 83k a week

(all reported wages are from various websites so may not be 100% accurate)

This is why we are in such a mess financially, who is responsible for giving such huge wages?

The problem here is that academy players should migrate when they are ready. It can't be a case of just chucking them in.

Alves is 17, is it right to expect him to be ready for first team football next season? He might be ready, but can you expect him to be ready? Likewise, is Braybrooke going to be Physically ready next year and at a level where you expect him to play us much as Tielermans has? Also, is it best for Alves to be sat on the bench like Perez has or at 18 is it best for him to be playing regular football on loan.

Its not as obvious as you make it sound, and for those that succeed (or look like they are going to succeed), the pressure will be on fast to reward them with Salaries so they don't immediately attract the big boys.

Well actually, the cover was needed for domestic cups and also the Europa. Remember that Vesty played in most of those initial Europa rounds. It was a sound decision if he wasn't such a steaming pile of turd.

I don’t think we have the right to question their finances, nothing to do with the fans. Too much being made of it,far too many fans opening up posts, that they really have no business,to try & control.

They earn what they earn & what the market brings.
What concerns me & then the right to question indirect level of income,

is their

i) individual performances,over long periods

ii) Their ‘team’ performance & playing with & for the team

iii) New season…can they up their level of all round team delivery.

3 games gone, All start with new a new chance & challenge…

We have the squad we have….Lets see first who wants to stand up.

Nothing has been yet settled.

Total waste of time,to try and argue points on their income.

Nothing is gained, but false ridiculous noise to prove falsely based

negative discussion…

You don’t want to pay that much for your match ticket…

Stop & make way for the fan who does…

In capitalism & free enterprise, all is fair game, rottenly unfair…

but its our world

It's a forum to debate all things Leicester. Think you're reading far too much into it. My point was just maybe are wage structure has put too much pressure on us financially.

Of course supporters can debate the finances of their club, I said absolutely nothing about ticket prices.

So fans want players tied to big contracts so we don't have another Tielemans situation but also don't want to pay them big bucks.

Goes hand in hand, I'm afraid you can have it both ways.

Contracts are exactly the same as transfers themselves

They are a risk.

Some pay off some don't.

Fans demand success unfortunately that comes at a price.

Understand where you're coming from but it's more the big contracts for players warming the bench, ie Vestergaard and Bertrand.

Like I said at the time you  hand out the contracts you can't tell which will come good and which won't.

My impression is though they were coming in as emergency cover and not to be in the first 11 week in week out. If it is the case it's just poor from whoever is in charge of recruitment.

This is similar as to the Rodgers situation. At the time he signed his contract extension and wage increase, the majority of the fan base were delighted and saw it as a real positive, only in the last 6-8 months or so does it now feel like a millstone round the clubs neck.

I don't seem to recall everyone moaning when we signed Bertrand on a free transfer in fact the general concensus was it was a win win situation.

No money paid and we bulk out the squad because we needed more cover.

Now months after the event after things have not ruined our like planned so far fans call it out saying its bad business.

Well I'm sorry.. if you call it out at the time fair enough but if you didn't you have no right to moan.

Despite Rudkins failings on contract length and salaries - he has managed to get over the line some decent transfers in the last few seasons - Tielemans, Fofana, Evans, Ricardo (NDidi may of been Walsh cant remeber) our fans and most football fans are very critical with hindsight, at the time Bertrand was probably sensible cover and no more. Don't remember a massive uproar, neither with Vestergaard.

Everyone quotes his wage at 80k/week over three years

that probably includes some of his s/o fee of around £1.5m

no player is ever actually free

Good riddance to them. If you were a true domestic fan of theirs though, you'd have to be earning a lot to actually follow them live and, despite the obvious jokes regarding plastic fans from other parts of the country, I suspect it would be a huge disappointment for many. There's only so many European teams you want to play occasionally, not every week. For most people I believe it's still the local rivalry and domestic scene that is preferred.

A huge part of being a football fan for me being able to go to live games, there's only so much TV you can stomach. If it was Leicester City, I can only speak personally, I wouldn't be able to travel abroad financially. I would therefore take up watching someone else more local and my interest Leicester City would drain. I certainly wouldn't buy any merchandise for a team I was unable to support. I found non league semi professional football quite refreshing to watch live last season in fairness watching my son.

Situations like Fofana and Tielemans, although inevitable and not exclusive to us as a club, start to become more and more unacceptable as time goes on for me. It would be easy to fall out of love with top flight football altogether at times.
